Playtex med nipples vs slow HELP

So I tried this weekend to move DD to med since it seemed like she was taking forever to drink her bottle. Well some times she was fine and other times I think she had more running from her mouth and on her wet bib.

Would you cont to use the med or move back to the slow ?

Re: Playtex med nipples vs slow HELP

  • If she seems content with the slow I would probably keep using those for now.

  • usually the med nipples say three months, so i would wait to change to med but ew dont use playtex so i dont know what the packaging says
  • I never give O a bottle, but DH does and he said he uses medium in the morning when O wakes up really hungry, and they haven't had any problems.
  • We just switched DS from the playtex slow to med this weekend.  His pedi recommended trying it because he seemed like he was sucking so hard with the slow nipples that he was sucking in a lot of air.  Plus, he's on special preemie formula that is thicker than regular formula.  Pedi said just to watch very closely for choking.  The first couple of times he had milk all over his face, but he's gotten better at it already.  It was like he was sucking just as hard as he did with the slow ones so milk got everywhere.  I would try for a day or 2 and see if she gets the hang of it.  If not, you can always switch back.

  • My lactation consultant told me that if it takes longer than 10 minutes for the baby to drink 1 oz it is time to upgrade the nipple to a faster speed.  We are still on the 0 - 3 month ones.  But were using special newborn ones before.
  • When my LO started taking 25 minutes to drink a bottle we moved to the medium flow.  We had the same problem where sometimes he was fine with it and sometimes milk was running down his chin.  After a few days he got used to it all the time and had no issues.  He was probably around 2 months when we switched to medium flow.
