Nada... In Alberta (and the rest of Canada) it's covered by our Healthcare system for everyone. I'm thankful this isn't something I have to worry about as I have enough to think about right now. Also... Alberta covers midwives as well (not that there is enough of them to go around as this is a new program).
I don't have a family doc so I was referred me to a low risk maternity clinic. I was a bit concerned about the care I would receive but after my first visit all fears were gone. They were thorough, super nice and and they offered me prenatal classes and everyone receives a great book with local resources and great information.
This is the first baby that I'm having since husband got out of the military. The other births and hospital stays were 100% free. Now my husband works in the ER at our local hospital so I believe that if I have the baby there then they pay 90% but after reading all of these replies, I'm going to double check!
i guess we have a $5600 deductible but my insurance works a little weird. i get the statement of benefits and ususally within a few days, another company that the hospital i work for uses sends me a check covering what the insurance didn't cover. i think it has to do with covering 100% of well-visits. my doctor's office is "helping us" by having me put down deposits with each visit to cover the cost so it won't "hit us" in the end (or so the financial lady said). i guess i'll find out how much my insurance really covers in the end. i don't think it will be everything but i'm really hoping we don't pay the $5600 out of pocket. yikes!
I have great insurance and all of the hospital fees are covered. I just had to pay $500 to meet my deductible and when he's here $200 something more for the circumcision.
Our insurance is changing Oct 1:( so with our old BCBS it would have been a $250 copay, BUT with our new Tufts it will be $350 deductible PLUS 15% co insurance, up to $1000 OOP max. They said they may be willing to waive it b/c we chose our OB before we knew about our insurance changes. My OB isn't out of network either.
I only have a $100 co-pay when admitted to the hospital. My insurance covers the labor including pain medication, hospital stay, and circumcision for my little baby boy.

I'm a very happy preggo!
$280 from beginning to end.
$30 for initial OB apt only then 100% covered afterwards with no maximum.
$250 for baby and her for delivery, 100% covered after $250 deductible with no maximum.
Glad I have good insurance as my brother in law just had a child and they paid around $6k OOP. Insane what some of these "womens' centers" cost.

This is why you should always know what your deductibles and copays are.
We will pay around 800 total for everything (hospital and things leading up to is).
