Anyone PG with Crohn's?

I am TTC about to start Clomid I am wondering if anyone here is PG with Crohn's disease, I am hoping for some advice. I am on Remicade and I am curious if you are planning on staying on the infusions during your pregnancy? This is a debate I have with myself all the time, and my GI DR says we'll talk about it as soon as I get PG but I shouldn't worry about it too much before then. Normally I love my GI dr and trust what he tells me, but I like to plan ahead and get all the info I can. So just wondering if you could share your stories of pregnancy and Crohn's.

Thanks!

Re: Anyone PG with Crohn's?

  • I don't have Crohn's, but DH does.  Everything I have heard from conferences and literature, once you stop an Anti-TNF treatment, you can develop antibodies for it.  At that point, you can't use that medicine anymore.  So you might want to be careful if you get off Remicade, as you may not be able to take it again.  DH's doc was thinking of switching him to Humira for the convenience factor but decided against it since Remicade was still working for him.  Hope everything works out for you.  Good luck TTC!

  • HI I have Ulcerative Colitis.

I am currently doing Remicade treatments (I was not on them while PG with DS.  I decided to go on remicade because a friend of mine was on it and get PG and they said she was ok to continue on it while PG and her baby girl is now 5 months old and perfect!

I felt great while I was PG they say that inflamitory deseases can get better because of the hormones. The problems come in after you give birth (a few weeks later) your body goes through so much that most people flair kinda bad at that point.

We are currently TTC and I plan on staying on my treatments.

I hope this helps. PM me if you have any questions.

  • I don't have it, but I am participating in a study (as a control) to see if Humira is safe for pregnant women. There are lots of women with Crohn's out there participating in the study!

  • my mom has crohns and once you stop taking remicade you cant go back on it same goes for humira she is on that right now...
  • I have ulcerative colits & my Dr said that 1/3 of pregnant women stay the same, 1/3 get better & 1/3 get worse. I never started remicade because my doctor said I could not be on it if I was pregnant. She also said I would need to be off it for at least 6 months before trying to conceive. I talked to my doctor before trying to make sure I was healthy enough (I've been really anemic for the past year & a half & have had 6 blood transfusions and a series of iron infusions) She said I could start trying and if I did have a flare-up I could do a dose of prednisone. I've been really lucky that my colitis has been really under control for over a year. The anemia was my main concern & I was worried about it flaring up but my doctor also said I could try because I was not having a flare-up. She said I could not try to conceive during a flare-up. I'm so glad you posted this!
