Pregnant after a Loss

HELP! What does your doctor say about Benadryl?

How much can you take?  I've been having severe allergies and I have taken one pill at night before bed to help for the past 3 days, but today my allergies got much worse.  I want to take a dose tonight, but I'm not sure how many days in a row it's okay to take it.  I'd hate to call the emergency on call doc about this, so I was hoping you ladies knew.  TIA!

Re: HELP! What does your doctor say about Benadryl?

  • I think my doctor said no more then 4 days...So I think you should be fine! Have you tried Zyrtec...that was a life-saver for me.  My doc said that was fine to take! It worked better then Benidryl and is 24 hrs!

  • my ob said it was fine.  I took it almost every night towards the end of my pregnancy due to sleep issues.

  • Thanks ladies!  I am so paranoid about hurting the baby, so y'all made me feel better :)
  • It's considered Pregnancy category B - so it's on my OB's safe list, I have taken it a few times when I need help sleeping.  You should be just fine!

  • When it comes to allergies, taking a nightly medication like zyrtec and claritin will work better than taking a benadryl each night.  I've taken claritin every night of this whole pregnancy.

Benadryl is better when you're having an allergic reaction to something.  It is also great when you're experiencing insomnia.

  • I was having severe allergies last week. I took benadryl for probably a week (eeek!) and then monday I went to my family doctor because my allergy meds weren't doing a thing....I had a sinus infection. So I'm on antibiotics for that right now. It seems to have helped A LOT. As soon as my infection is gone, my bendryl or clariton should help any allergies that are lingering. This is my time of year for allergies...blah.
  • It is on my doctors safe list of meds for pregnancy! Hope you feel better soon.
