confused on due dates

Ok, I know I will find out exactly when I go see my Dr. in a couple of weeks when my due date is and how far along I am. My question is I have entered my dates in different ticker websites and I have gotten all different results on how far along I am. One says 4 wks, another says 5 wks. Why would they differ since I am entering the same date? Really hope the 5 wk ticker is correct that way i am farther along! Can you tell this is all new to me. Ha ha!!

Re: confused on due dates

  • It could be neither...

It depends on lmp and how long your cycles are and when you ovulated.... So, don't be surprised if your doctor throws another date in there too.  Until they measure and see on ultrasound it's really just a "good guess" or "estimate" anyway

  • Loading the player...
  • Some ask for how long your cycle is and some don't...I noticed this difference.

Mine is not the typical 28 and is closer to 30. This can definitly throw it off a bit.

My original was April 19 and then it changed to April 25 afteer they measured the baby. I was about 4 days off. I went in yesterday and they said I was 9 weeks 3 days...who knows...

I am sure they will change some more...

  • Unless you were charting (or really, really know your body) it's kind of debatable, especially early on. But once you start to grow a little more the measurements will be more accurate.

The due date usually goes a week either way anyhow. Very, very few people actually deliver on their given date.

  • Using LMP, I would be a week later than I am now, which is the date my dr has chosen to use even though it's physically impossible to be a week farther along (I would've then had sex with DH while I was abroad and he was at home).

Long story short, it depends on when you ovulated & how long your cycle is normally (the two are related).  Due date calculators assume that your cycle is 4 weeks long, with 2 weeks before ovulation & 2 weeks after ovulation.  The time after ovulation will always be around the same length but the time before ovulation can vary and since you become one day pregnant the first day of that cycle, before you even ovulate, and unless you have 28 day cycles, due date calculators will be a little off.

    Sorry that got long.
