DS is getting big~ so we need to start looking for a "big" carseat.
have no idea where to start the search... please recommend yours... why?
is there a crash test rating? I do drive a lot and long distances..... so I just want to be extra cautious...
thanks!

We are very happy with our Britax seats and actually just bought two more for the grandparents to have. I have a Marathon in my car, which is good for up to 65 pounds. We just bought our parents Roundabout 50s, which go up to 50 lbs (regular Roundabout is only good to 40 lbs).
Britax seats in general have excellent safety ratings and are very comfortable. I don't know anyone who doesn't like their Britax.

We have two Britax seats and they're both great. We have a Decathalon and a Marathon.
My parents have a Fisher Price Safe Voyage in their car (they do minimal driving). We did a carseat check probably a year and a half ago and the techs told us that it was basically the same seat as a Britax just without the bells and whistles.
Good luck!
Ditto. The Truimph has the same ratings as the Britax Marathon on Consumer Reports.
that is what sold us!
We realized that DD had became too tall for her infant seat when they measured her at her 9 month appointment, and we couldn't afford to get Marathons either. My mom bought a Graco MyRide 65 for her car, and I really like that one. For DH, we bought a Recaro Como, as well rated as the Britax in Baby Bargains. It normally costs about the same as the Roundabout, but I found it on Diapers.com for only $149 with free shipping, so it ended up being cheaper than the Graco! Finally, my car has a Britax Roundabout that is a hand me down from my BFF. I know she would tell me if it had been in an accident, and it had been in her husband's car and rarely used.
Anyway, I like all three seats and would recommend them all. On the crash test ratings I saw, the Roundabout was the best rated for rear facing.
