I am 15 weeks and still fit into my regular clothes. I am wearing a bella band with most of my pants now and most of my shirts fit besides my dressy button up ones for work. To buy good maternity clothes I have to drive about an hour, so the only good time for me to go is on the weekends. If I don't go tomorrow I won't be able to go until I'm 17 or 18 weeks because I am going out of town next weekend and I am afraid I won't be able to wear most of my normal clothes at all in a couple of weeks. Even though I don't really need them now, it's really the only good time to go. Should I wait until I actually need them so I know exactly what size to get or should I just get them tomorrow. I also want to add that I get a clothing allowance from work so I plan on using that and I do want to use what I have left for the year soon because I may be quitting shortly. Please don't flame me... I don't know much about sizing and the right time to buy maternity clothes.
Re: Too early to buy materinty clothes?
Thanks! I didn't know if it was a stupid question.
Personally, I'd only buy what you need when you need it. If a few things would be helpful now, get those, but don't go out and buy a full maternity wardrobe. Lots of women go crazy early only to outgrow their maternity stuff earlier than expected.
Other than a couple items, I waited until 22 weeks to buy anything and I'm glad I did. Most maternity stuff works best when you have a decent belly.
Plus, by the time you're really showing/need stuff, the weather will be a lot cooler and you don't want to buy a bunch of out of season stuff.
You might want to get a few "key" items now, especially if you won't be able to go again for a while. You don't want to be caught without anything to wear. That said, there are a lot of regular clothes you can buy that might work during and after pregnancy (so you don't have to drive an hour to a maternity store). Stretchy and drawstring skirts are great for work. Empire shirts are great for that time before you get really big AND after you have LO (cause you'll still have a little belly afterwards). You can also buy a size or two up and they will normally fit well for a while and also work for after having LO.
(and btw, I bought maternity clothes at 6 weeks. . .most are designed to grow with you)
Thanks for the advice... I did buy some empire waist type shirts to get me through the warm times because though my belly isn't really big right now I still don't feel comfortable in tight clothes. I have to wear suits to work so that is why I thought maybe I'd use my clothing allowence to buy fall/winter maternity suites, a couple pair of jeans, and shirts that I can wear with both the dressy and casual.
