Guiding Light

I don't watch any soaps now but saw on the Morning Show that GL is being cancelled and today is its last show. It has been on air (radio and tv) for 72 years! I used to watch when I was in highschool and so I am tuning in today to say goodbye.

 Funny thing is I am sure it will still all make perfect sense... In my head it always starts "Later that same day"... and "The part of SO and SO will be played by"....

    I used to watch Guiding Light when I was a preteen and my early teens (my mom watched it).  Kevin Bacon was on it and played a young alcoholic named Tim Werner.  And I loved Philip and Beth and then Beth and Lujack.

    I hadn't watched in over 20 years but it does feel like the end of an era.

    I'm watching it now. Its sooooo weird. They are outside a lot - really outside, not on the set with the cheasy ficus plants and straw on the stage floor. I don't EVER recall them actually being outside when I watched in the 80's. Maybe they couldn't risk the elements with all that big hair.

    I have to admit I got sucked back in while on my 2 maternity leaves. They started all the outdoor stuff in the last year or so. While I didn't watch often, I was sad to hear it's done. I did tune in... while pumping. The joys of working from home!
