D.C. Area Babies

Sorry - more questions! Bottles?

We have been using Born Free bottles, but I am starting think it's giving DD gas. Our pediatrician said Born Free is fine, but said we could also use:

Playtex Ventaire
Playtex Dropins
Dr. Browns

Anyone else have gas-related trouble with Born Free? Any thoughts on the bottles above?

Re: Sorry - more questions! Bottles?

  • Your baby is under a month old, right? (Sorry, I've been MIA lately so if I'm off, sorry, and if I'm on point, congrats!) :-)

Honestly, it may not be the bottles. DD had gas for the first two months and the pediatrician told us some babies have more gas as their digestive systems mature. DD also had a milk sensitivity that increased gas so it wouldn't have mattered what kind of bottles we used.

That said, maybe it's the bottles! Born Free has worked great for us but maybe others have had a different experience.

Ditto this.  DS had a lot of gas issues even when I BFed.

Have you tried Mylicon drops?  They didn't always work for us, but when they did it was a lifesaver!

  • DD's gas went away when I cut dairy out of my diet... it sucks that I've given up all things dairy, but it's made for a much happier baby.
  • FWIW, I hate our Dr. Brown's.  They have extra pieces that are a pain to clean, and they are a little leaky.

I have tried the Drop-Ins, and they are great.  We don't use them (they freak out DH for some reason...) but, if it were up to me, we would probably use them more.

DD has never had a gas problem, so, we just use the cheapie Evenflo's with a variety of different nipples.

  • My baby will only take Dr Browns, we tried the different playtex ones and Avent but only the dr browns one stuck, GOODLUCK!
  • Dr. Browns do have a lot of parts, but we use/used them with both our girls.  Not sure if it helped with gas problems because neither of them had/have gas problems - not sure if that's because of the Dr. Browns bottles though.
