Babies: 9 - 12 Months

Pumping and decreased supply ??

I have been BF and pumping at work for almost 9 months now. My supply has never been great but is really dropping now when pumping. I recently switched my schedule to work 8:30-2:30 - 4 days a week. I only get one pumping session in a day and I only get about 3-3 1/2 oz. DD nurses like a champ when I am home, her best nursing sessions being at night and in the wee morning hours. She also gets formula supplement and solids. I was thinking about dropping my pumping session but I don't want that to effect my supply or my ability to nurse DD when I am home with her. This is my nursing pump schedule:

7am nurse DD 20 min or so

11am pump

3pm nurse DD when I get home

6pm nurse DD- shorter session and she also eats solids around this time.

9pm nurse DD and she goes to bed.

3am DD wakes to nurse (the 3 and 5 is when she nurses the most..go figure)

5am DD wakes to nurse

Can anyone offer any suggestions?

TIA

Re: Pumping and decreased supply ??

  • Its funny to me that this post doesnt have any responses but all of the other non-baby-related ones are getting tons.  Anyway, my supply has been off and on since af recently returned...it must be the hormones.  I would bet that your supplimenting is also not helping.  I honestly dont know about giving up your pumping session, but I guess its a bit risky.  I have been taking 9 capsuls of fenugreek each day when my supply drops.  Usually within a day or two its back up again.  If you are comfortable with supplimenting I guess you could give it a try, but if you hav e the time to continue pumping I would just keep it up.  GL!
