I just got my doppler (hi bebe) in the mail today and am having trouble finding the heartbeat. I knew that it might be hard b/c I am still sort of early, but I'm wondering what tricks you have to help find the heartbeat?
Anytime before 14 weeks try to do it with a full bladder. Take your time, and don't move the probe quickly. The easiest thing is to find a point of reference (your heartbeat) then find something twice as fast. It will sound like a galloping horse.
Looks really low. Like just above your hair line. That's where I always found it. Baby is really tiny then and can be sort of ellusive. If you don't find it, wait awhile and try again....don't panic, your little one is tiny.
Start LOW. Lower than you might think. Use lots of gel and just take your time. You'll find it! When I was 12 weeks, we could always find my placenta whooshing on my right side and the baby would always be right next to it. Now she/he prefers to hang out on the left side.
Re: Doppler users-come on in!
FWIW my OB couldn't even find the HB at 12 weeks when I was in there for an appt with his machine so it could just be that it's too early.
I'd try all around your lower abdomen though - it should sound about twice as fast as your hb.
Lots of gel. Full bladder.
Hold the doppler is one spot then rotate it slowly in the same spot (facing upwards, sideways etc). Repeat for next area.
I did not find a steady heartbeat on my HiBebe until 16 weeks. Lots of baby numbers but no baby sound.
Be patient.
This! Also I found that early on I had better luck in the morning.
