Doppler users-come on in!

Hi there,

I just got my doppler (hi bebe) in the mail today and am having trouble finding the heartbeat. I knew that it might be hard b/c I am still sort of early, but I'm wondering what tricks you have to help find the heartbeat?

Thanks!

Re: Doppler users-come on in!

  • Use lots of gel! Be patient. Angle the doppler different ways. You might find it WAY lower than you're looking, too.

  • FWIW my OB couldn't even find the HB at 12 weeks when I was in there for an appt with his machine so it could just be that it's too early.

I'd try all around your lower abdomen though - it should sound about twice as fast as your hb.

  • Lots of gel.  Full bladder.

Hold the doppler is one spot then rotate it slowly in the same spot (facing upwards, sideways etc). Repeat for next area.

I did not find a steady heartbeat on my HiBebe until 16 weeks.  Lots of baby numbers but no baby sound.

    Be patient.

  • Anytime before 14 weeks try to do it with a full bladder. Take your time, and don't move the probe quickly. The easiest thing is to find a point of reference (your heartbeat) then find something twice as fast. It will sound like a galloping horse.

This!  Also I found that early on I had better luck in the morning.

  • Looks really low. Like just above your hair line. That's where I always found it. Baby is really tiny then and can be sort of ellusive. If you don't find it, wait awhile and try again....don't panic, your little one is tiny.

  • Start LOW. Lower than you might think. Use lots of gel and just take your time. You'll find it! When I was 12 weeks, we could always find my placenta whooshing on my right side and the baby would always be right next to it. Now she/he prefers to hang out on the left side.
