BF: how to balance lop-sided breasts??

anyone successfully balanced their lop-sided breasts?  if so, what did you do???   i've been feeding more on the side that has been giving me pain (in my arm pit) from night time engorgement.  i assume it caused it to be larger.

edit:  i know about alternating but b/c i had severe arm pit pain (related to thrush most likely), i nursed a lot on that side to relieve the pressure AND now i'm paying for it (with a larger breast).  wondering if i should give that breast a rest and just nurse on the other one until it catches up.

  • I pump. If dd is satisfied with just one side during her morning feeding then I'll pump the other side.

  • You should be alternating sides when you start nursing. If you begin the feeding on the right side, then next time LO nurses, start on the left side. Favoring one side will only promote more milk. Your LO is pretty young yet so your body should begin to regulate its milk production soon.
