2nd Trimester

Question about stretch marks...

How far along were you when/if yours started to appear? I'm not showing at all yet and I'm just curious about when they popped up for you...? let me know!

Re: Question about stretch marks...

  • I'm wondering when that will happen too and curious to see the other answers!  I don't have any yet at 22 weeks and I'm quite large . . . I've heard it depends a lot on your genetics and your skin tone prior to pregnancy.  If it helps, I have been lotioning up since about 13 weeks, but not religiously.

  • I never got them w/DD and so far none w/this LO.  Everyone else in my family has them.  Genetics have nothing to do with it.  It's about how quickly you gain weight and the condition of your skin.

  • I already had a few light tiny ones on both of my sides but around 17 weeks I noticed them getting huge and dark. My sides on my hips are covered, my stomach on either side of my belly button look like a huge cat clawed me and the most fun of all pretty much from my croch to my knee my inner leg has FOUR rows of stetchmarks!! I HATE STRETCHMARKS!!! bye bye body!

  • I don't have any, but still lotion anyway.
  • yeah, i heard its completely genetics too but my mom had three kids and never got any, but i have a few on my thighs and boobs from puberty, which makes me think i'm a sure candidate. woohoo!
  • I got a few here and there towards the end of second tri with dd, but at the end of the pregnancy the stretchmarks exploded! With this pregnancy since my skin is stretching the old ones are becoming very visible again. They really don't bother me too much, it was so very worth it! And mine faded with time, although never fully went away.
  • Brideofscowboy, you didnt get any until 38 weeks?! wow, i think they might be completely unpredictable then.. ps your baby is SO adorable!

Same here. I hear some women get them during delivery.

  • Not yet, but my mom doesn't have stretch marks.  My maternal grandmother doesn't either (she had 7 kids, so I was kind of surprised to hear that) and since they are pretty much hereditary I am not too worried.

Not entirely.. I got them around 5 months with #1, all around the front half of my waist (weird), and at that point, had gained zero. Although I was getting very thick thru the middle around then.

  • I think it's more typical for them to show up in late pregnancy. Some women don't even get them until after birth (that would be a bummer!). You're not really "safe" until post-delivery.

  • I had some faded ones on my sides prior to pregnancy from weight loss/gain. They exploded around week 15 or so (only had gained 3lbs then).

I now have some on either side of my belly button and down lower.

Same thing happened to my friend. She had none, delivered the baby and then bam tons of stretch marks all over her lower belly. They were purple. So don't think your safe just yet. She lotioned up all the time too! My OB says if your going to get them lotion will not help. It will help w/ the itchiness though.Good luck to all and let's keep our fingers crossed. Although I do have a couple dots which is probably the start of my stretch marks.

  • For the first six months or so I had one stretch mark on each hip, then out of the blue several more popped up all at once.  Now my hips and butt have stretch marks.  Oh, and when you read about it being heredity that plays a part in this, my mom told me she never got stretch marks with either me or my brother....I haven't noticed them on my dad yet.  Wink

So if you're lucky to not have anything yet, don't hold your breath, they like to pop up over night.

  • I'll be 39 weeks tomorrow and just started getting them.
  • They started popping up on my boobs around 12 weeks and on my hips shortly after that.  None on my belly yet.  Stretch marks run in my family and I've had them since puberty, so it doesn't really bother me when I find new ones.  It's more like, "oh hey guys, welcome to the party."
