Advice needed: Retail interview with no retail background...

Hi...New to this board, but looking to get back to work!

I have a nursing degree, but am having extreme difficulties finding a job after we moved to a smaller town a year ago.  We are needing the extra income, now especially we want to have baby #2 soon & with the holidays coming.   So I have an interview with Herbergers tomorrow.  Any advice on how to "sell" me on getting the job? I once worked in retail in HS....TIA!

  • Just play up the fact that you like working with the public, and you have great customer servicxe skills.  Helping people makes you happy, etc.  I have worked retail in between "real" jobs and always loved it!  Good luck at your interview!

  • I agree - just highlight working with people.  Does the scheduling appeal to you too?  I would guess it will be a pretty casual interview.  Good luck!
  • I used to do interviews for a retail company. Be prepared to give them an example of how you have sold something- like a service plan for an electronics company or upselling a desert at a resteraunt.  I think a lot of retail companies want to know how you will benefit them.
