NBR: Any Seattle area ladies?

We are heading to Seattle this weekend (from Vancouver Island, Canada) for my birthday to watch the Mariners vs. Yankee's game and just to hang out and do some shopping. I've only been there once and it was a super quick visit so just wondering if anyone has any recommendations for fun things to do and even more importantly good places to eat! (we are staying downtown, two blocks from Pike Market). TIA!

  • You have to hit Pikes Place Market and its easy to kill a few hours there for sure.  Seattle Center has the EMP and Pacific Science Center. Downtown has the Aquarium which is fun to see as well as all the little touristy shops all along the waterfront.  For food, my favorite is the Crab Pot or The Fishermans Wearhouse which both are in the same area along the waterfront.

  • Well you must get the garlic fries at the stadium! (Um, if you like garlic!) Hope it's sunny for you with the roof open. It's beautiful. Try to hit the Pikes Place Market...a couple of good restaurants are Canlis& Palisades. Pacific Place is a nice, higher end shopping Plaza with a good movie theater if its raining. And of course there is the Space Needle. I wouldn't highly recommend the restaurant at the top but definitely the Observation deck. The food is just too pricey for the quality. If i think of anything else, i'll post again so check back...
  • Eating downtown - so many good places!  Cafe Campagne, Purple Cafe, Cafe Lola, Wild Ginger, The Pink Door... yummy!  For drinks, the Tasting Room (all Washington wines) is really fun. I'm sure you'll get lots of other suggestions too.

If you want to get out of downtown to do something, the Woodland Park zoo is wonderful and there are currently baby snow leopards that are super cute! The Chittenden Locks in Ballard are fun and there is a fish ladder where you can watch the migrating salmon.  It's peak season now so there are a lot.

    Have fun!

  • Everyone took my ideas!! You have to go to Pike Place Market, and there are a lot of little cafe/bakery-type places to eat there, so that's best for lunchtime. Also, Alki Beach in West Seattle is very pretty and they have a lot of great restaraunts. My fav down there is Cactus (southwest style). Hope you have a great time!
  • Definitely spend some time at the Market. I love Etta's seafood, which is right down there.

Purple Cafe & Wine Bar is fun. I can think of lots of others. What kind of food do you like?

We like everything! Sounds like there are so many good places...don't know how I am going to decide. We used to live in the city and loved trying new places but now we are in a small town with a pretty small selection so that is why I am overly excited about this :-) Maybe being pregnant has something to do with it too...

  • Although I love going to Purple... I have to say it's a NW Chain, it is good but it's not at the top if my list.  I HIGHLY suggest Shuckers it's on the corner of 4th and Seneca located in the Fairmont Olympic Hotel, it's a great NW/Seafood restaurant. It has a spectacular menu that changes weekly and the service is fantastic, I've gone many times and love Darla and Jay they are both my favorites but truly every one of them is great.  Plus then you can walk around the fancy hotel and look around too which is always fun  Wink

Also, I usually get their Scallops from the fresh fish board which are on the okay to eat seafood list.  They also have a side item which is Dungeness Crab Mac and Cheese which you've got to try!
