Babies: 0 - 3 Months

So frustrated, so tired.

DD has been fighting the never-ending ear infection for about a month.  I feel terrible for her.  She has had a failed dose of Ammox. and a dose of Augmentin that worked, but only for a week or two before the ear infection came back.  On Friday she was diagnosed with ear infection #3 along with a cough and congestion.  We went the pedi's office and the put her on Rosephin (?) shots for 3 days and a nebulizer for the cough and congestion.  Yesterday we were able to see our actual pedi, and she said she is getting better and didn't do the last shot but put her on an oral antibiotic instead.

The problem is, she is just not sleeping, which I kinda get because she is feeling so crappy but weird because all she wants is her pacifier.  She sucks so hard on the pacifier until she finally falls asleep and the second it is out of her mouth she freaks out and screams at the top of her lungs.  Give it back to her and she is happy as a lark and goes back to sleep until the cycle repeats.  Sometimes she even screams with the pacifier in her mouth.  This is really strange because she has never, ever slept with a paci before this.  I told the pedi and she said to stay the course and everything will be fine.  Even more puzzling is the fact that she sleeps fine during the day, just not at night.  During the day she is the happiest kid on earth, at night is a totally different story.

I just don't know what to do anymore.  She is miserable, and DH and I are miserable because she is miserable.  I am exhausted and taking a day off just isn't an option.

I just had to vent...

  • that's awful. have you tried giving her some tylenol at night? maybe she has a headache from being so stuffy and it might help with that.

  • I know it will be hard to take away later...but any chance she'll find her thumb & be happy w/ that?  I never wanted a thumb sucker, but she found hers early & it has been a LIFESAVER for us!  She can sooth herself back to sleep (most of the time) without us.  Not sure if you can get a kid to try it...but we sometimes put her hand to her mouth when she's freaking & she finds it...good luck though!
