Hi, I wanted to introduce myself since I just found this board and I'm hoping it can help me out.
My name is Sarah, happily married for a little more than 2 years and we have one DD, Jordan (nearly 9 months old, born 40w1d). I have an appointment on the 21st to discuss the possibility of a secondary IF dx with the "infertility person" (Lisa, an NP) at my OBgyn's office.
I feel really rushed about the appointment.
I have hypothyroidism and my levels have been a little off since having DD although they seem to be right now. When I called about making my last b/w appointment my GP asked some general questions, and I mentioned that we hoped to have another baby on the way soon (I know my TSH levels need to be in check first). We spoke about it a little more and she said she wanted to make an appointment with Lisa for me since I'd been off BCP since DDs birth and we hadn't been preventing and it'd "take awhile to get in."
"Awhile to get in" is apparently code for 'I will call the OBgyns office and Lisa will immediately call you back and make you feel as though you should have been in there for a consultaion about 10 minutes after Jordan was released from the NICU.'
I was prepared for an appointment in a few months, not a few weeks.
So anyway, now I have this appointment on the 21st and I have no idea what to expect, what to ask about, or why I'm even there yet.
We had no problems concieving DD, but I did have 2 previous m/c (MH was not the father) that the geneticist DD saw said was probably due to chromosomal abnormalities.
What questions should I ask while I'm there?
What should I expect in the appointment? I'm assuming it's just going over my medical history, correct?
Any thing I should be on the look out for? Certain words/phrases that I should be googling before the appointment?
TIA
~Sarah
Re: hi... introduction & questions. (sorry that it's long)
For starters I am surprised by your GP b/c normally they ask you to wait a year after actively trying.
What questions should I ask while I'm there?I would ask how your thyroid affects fertility, if there are any indications you have a fertility problem, if she thinks a month of blood work might help... and that would be about it.
What should I expect in the appointment? I'm assuming it's just going over my medical history, correct? Maybe... depending on your cycle they may want blood work or to do a PAP if you are due.
Any thing I should be on the look out for? I would just listen and pay attention.
Certain words/phrases that I should be googling before the appointment? Maybe see how your thyroid affects fertility and figure out if your cycles are regular.
I was surprised she wanted me to go in too. That's why when she said it'd take awhile I didn't think much of it. If I got in for an appointment in January or later, it'd be a year of at least not preventing and nearly a year of actively trying.
As for my thyroid, I've been dealing with that for years. The only time (much to the shock of drs) that my dosage has ever changed was after I gave birth. Being pregnant kicked it into gear and it stopped attacking itself for a while. It's currently functioning at the same level it was before I got pregnant with DD. I've been medicated since being diagnosed 3 1/2 years ago. If my TSH levels are off, it can cause anovulation and m/c.
My cycles aren't regular in that they happen every so many days, but they are regular that most times I seem to O and have an 11-13 day LP (my cycles have typically been 24-62 days for as long as I can remember). I did chart before getting pg with DD, and since (b/c she wasn't sleeping so well) I've charted CM & recently added OPKs into the mix. She's been sleeping (mostly) TTN lately and I plan to start temping again this cycle.
ETA: I do have a family history of IF, but I *thought* I'd read that it wasn't hereditary

Hi and welcome to the board!
Ditto Fran. Try not to be too freaked out by it all
It's a process and it can be very daunting. You are lucky that our Dr's are being proactive about you TTC. Usually on this board it's the opposite where Dr's won't do much for a specific period of time.
If you don't feel comfortable with the speed at which this is going let them know. You can always postpone the appointment if you want to. With history of a thyroid issue and all that it entails I am not realy surprised they want to check you out though.
Good luck. I hope you stick around and let us know how it goes.
