Vitamin D supplement?

I have read in various locations and heard from people that breastfed babies need a Vitamin D supplement. I went to the pedia this past week for the one-month-well-baby appt and she didn't mention anything about it (and I forgot to ask). Do any of you out there supplement? Is this something I should look more into?

    I was told just to get out in the sunshine for about 15 mins a day and that would suffice.

    ours told us to take trivisol although he refuses to take it and spits it at us every day we still try...

    Unless you live in a pitch black cave your baby will be perfectly fine without the supplement. Vitamin D is another way for Dr's to get moms to give formula as well. If you dont pump the tell you to mix it with a few ounces of formula and that it will also help them gain weight.

    We give DS tri vi sol daily straight from the dropper.  I did read that the amount of vitamin D a baby needs is about 2-3 mins in the sunshine per day. However, vitamin D is such an important vitamin for fighting illness and people, in general, do not get enough. We will probably give DS the supplement until next summer though the pedi said we could stop when he starts on solids.

    My pediatrician gave me a sample of Enfamil Tri-Vi-Sol.  I am supposed to give LO 1ml daily to help with vitamin D.  Dr said breastfed babies need the supplement.  I just got another bottle of it from my local grocery store in the vitamin section.

    My pedi also said 20 minutes or so of sun a week was plenty for vit. D.  We've never done the drops.

    I do, but I think it depends on where you live. We don't get enough consistent sunshine to get enough Vit D here, so we have ti supplement.

    We were feeding LO the tri vi sol drops as well but he started to get really fussy and sick on them so the Pediatritian said it's not worth it if he's going to be sick all the time so we just make sure he gets a little sun light a day to get his vitamin D...
