I agree with the PP. I never had the "ticks" sounding because it was too distracting. One thing I will add is that DS would always scoot to the top of his crib, so we placed the sensor closer to the spot rather than the middle.
We had to put a piece of plywood under the sensor pad (but on top of the crib springs) to get the sensitivity right. We also had to turn the sensitivity down slightly or it would pick up the ceiling fan. Make sure you don't have a mobile or anything on the crib that might create tiny motions. We loved ours and didn't stop using it until like 14 months
