2nd Trimester

Order a doppler: Should I or shouldn't I? What did you do? Why?

Okay girls. I will be 10 weeks on Wed. I told myself that I could order my Doppler then if I was going to.  I would be so relieved to hear that little HB that I would love it, however I know I?d be worried if I didn?t hear it too.  One more time, tell me please:  Did you get one and have you enjoyed having it or was it to stressful? When did you first hear the HB?  If you didn?t get one, tell me why: Are you happy you didn?t get one?  Thanks!!!  Any details are appreciated!!

  • I don't have one, but there are times I wish I did. I was very paranoid before I could actually feel him move... and hated going a whole month between appts without hearing his precious HB. I think if you've got anxiety, it's a great investment. And even if you don't, hearing that sound never gets old. JMO :)

  • i was thinking about renting one but then i was like, "for what?"

i'm not gonna sit and listen to the baby's heartbeat all day and those things are expensive! i would much rather put that money towards clothes or something cute for the baby.

  • i got one at 12 weeks and was able to find the HB then. the first few weeks it would take a minute or two because he was so small, but now i find it immediately. mine was the hi bebe off ebay for 99 with free shipping. i totally recommend getting one. we plan on having more than one child, so ill use it for all my pregnancies. it was just peace of mind during those early days before kicks and movement! i used it everyday until i started feeling him move. now i use it every now and then, like on quiet days. i love it.

    Same here.?

  • I asked my Dr. about this, b/c I was like you. I really wanted to hear my LO's heartbeat every day. She told me that she did not think that was a good idea, b/c there are many times when they do not work the right way and/or the person using it is not using it correctly, therefore causing you to have a complete freak-out/ melt down and much unnecessary stress. I followed her advice, but sometimes I DO wish I could just listen to him whenever I want!?

  • It's the best $89 I've spent. I ordered mine when I was 11 weeks (at the time I thought I was 10 weeks), got it a few days later, and I was instantly able to find the heartbeat. It's great if you're not the type to spaz out if you can't find it immediately, but if you stress easily I wouldn't recommend it.

It has been a great comfort in between appointments and since I can't feel the baby. The main reason I bought it was because my husband deployed almost 2 months after we found out about me being pregnant. This way he can hear the heartbeat and the baby moving around in there even after I can feel the baby.

I bought mine from the seller, Prenatal Comforts, on Ebay for $89 (free s&h). It has a 3mhz probe which allows you to pick up the heartbeat more easily due to the higher sensitivity.

Also, I'm quite fat which is supposed to make it more difficult to find the heartbeat, but I have had absolutely no issues thus far.

  • I have one, honestley it was a big relief hearing the HB.  Just understand that due to how the baby may be laying, you wont hear it all the time.  When you do hear it, it might have taken a lot of searching to find it.  Maybe try renting one to see if you like it, if not I got mine from EBAY.  The hi bebe doppler for 99$ came with gel.  Heard the HB at 9 weeks 4 days.
  • I LOVED mine. ?I got one off ebay for $99 and used it starting at 10 weeks. ?The first couple times, it took me awhile to hear the baby, but it got easier. ?I loved knowing LO was safe and sitting there listening with DH was a great bonding experience. ?I probably used it every other day for about 15 seconds, so it wasn't "All day". ?Once the baby was moving around regularly I lent it to a friend and she loved it too.

  • I also bought a Hi-Bebe Doppler off ebay for $99.  It's been awesome!  I found LO's HB at 11 weeks and use it periodically just beause I love hearing it!!  Like others have said, it's been great peace of mind between appointments & before I was able to feel her moving around.

Also, DH & DD are unable to come to every Dr. appt - and missed the one where we heard the HB for the first time - so they are able to hear it at home with the doppler.  It's been an awesome investment, IMO.  If you can afford it, I'd go for it!

  • I got one and would totally?recommend?it! ?It has been such a relief to have it around. I only use it maybe every other day at the most...sometimes once a week, but it is great to have when I get nervous. ?My puppy (65 lbs) jumped right on my stomach one day and it hurt for awhile, so it was nice to have to be sure everything was OK. ?

When baby comes, I'm pretty sure I can resell the one I have on Craigslist for the same price I paid for it, because the girl I bought it from had a lot of?inquiries?about it. ? (if I want to...I might just keep it for the next baby!)

    Good luck!?

  • I'm thinking of selling my Hi Bebe doppler in about a week or so once I feel the baby move more and more. It picks up the heartbeat very fast and easy.

  • I actually just ordered a doppler ... eagerly awaiting it's arrival ... I just purchased it because I thought that it would be fun ... my husband unfortunately recently relocated to New Orleans, LA and we'll only be seeing each other about 2x a month ... I thought it would be cute to let him listen on the phone ... I'm not really paranoid about anything ... just thought it would be fun ...
  • i have unisar bebe sounds. i'm 23 weeks and still can't hear the heartbeat. my sister had the same one and it didn't work for her at 40 weeks. i wouldn't spend the money, personally. i think that only the ones in the doctors offices work.
  • I did not get one for my last or for this pregnancy;  I'd drive myself nuts w/it.  I'm a worrier already/I don't need to contribute to it.

  • I dont have one..I actually didn't want one and I am very impatient but it makes hearing the heartbeat at the doctors office every two weeks special..plus it depends on how often you go to the doctor..I go every two weeks, most women go every 2-4 weeks...
  • My friend loaned me her BebeSounds one... I still haven't managed to find a HB with it yet, though it said usually not till after 20 weeks anyway.

I probably wouldn't have paid for one, but I'll take it out once in awhile and see if I can hear anything, since it was free.

  • Hey Cara!  I didn't get one.  I thought if I had one I would probably obsess over finding the heartbeat and having to listen frequently and then freaking out if I couldn't locate it... So I saved the money and just look forward to my monthly visits to the OB where I can listen to the hb with joy :)
