If you have a brother who is married, come in.

I know this can only apply to so many people but I am trying to understand things.  Do you ever feel a teensy bit jealous of your SIL if she is with your mom? I feel like SIL wants to leave me out of things after I have spent some time with MIL. Like I am "stealing" her away or something. I am just curious if this is a natural reaction to brother's wives.

  • No not really but my SIL is really weird and we rarely see her lol. She is very VERY attached to her own parents and picks them over her own family (meaning my brother and niece).

  • All I know if I better still be the 'favorite' when BIL gets married! lol

  • Hmm, neither of my brothers are married (yet) but I can imagine that when they are, if their wives spend a bunch of time with my mom I'll feel some pangs of jealousy.  My mom and I are super close, and I'm her only girl, so I think I would (stupidly and childishly) be jealous of another girl getting that relationship (not that it would be like our relationship, but you know what I mean).  Does that make sense?

  • Maybe she wants to make sure that she builds a relationship with your mother. I mean, group things are fun, but you do need one on one time occasionally. Ya know?
  • I've never been jealous of my SILs spending time with my mom, but I spend a lot of time with her too.  Granted, the few times she has decided to do things with my brother and his family without inviting us, it has left me feeling left out.  She will sometimes take my brother's family out to dinner and such - but there's only 4 of them, whereas there are 7 of us.  Plus, she can't stand my stepchildren, so she tends to not invite us to things like that.

Oh I totally understand that, and think that is very important. I just do not see how the three of us can NEVER do anything together. They can go shopping every Saturday but god forbid I come along. And they are together a lot during the week as well, so I do not feel like I would be taking away tons of away time.

I think being away from family and friends makes it harder. Like they were my only hope of making a place here right away, ya know?

  • My situation is a little different, but no, I would have been shocked if my SIL was spending time with my mom.  Honestly, my mom is that evil MIL everyone talks about.  Big Smile
  • No, but I have an awesome SIL. My brother married an amazing girl, and I love the fact that she wants to spend time with my parents.

Actually, she, my brother, and my parents went out to dinenr tonight. DH, DD and I were invited, but we already had plans. If I didn't like my SIL so much though, I'd be super-pissed that another girl was crowding in on my mama.

See, I do not think I am a horrible person but SIL and I are very opposite.  I honestly think she has a problem with me and I cannot figure it out.

  • I don't get jealous of my SIL and my mom.

However, my H's sister gets uber jealous when my other SIL brown noses MIL. She even went so far to say SIL got pg to compete with her. But then again, they are both young.
