Anyone take Zoloft for PPD/Anxiety?

After over a year of severe insomnia, I finally broke down and went to my OBGYN this morning.  I haven't slept at all for two nights in a row and I'm a total mess.  She diagnosed me with post-partum anxiety and thinks that this is the cause of my insomnia.  I kind of agree with her, but I'm scared of anti-depressants for some reason.  She prescribed me Zoloft and I'm sitting here, looking at the prescription bottle and haven't taken one yet.  I'd love to hear some others experiences with Zoloft.  TIA.

  • I don't take it, but my husband has for the past few months. Before getting the rx, he was a nightmare to be around at time. Since he's been taking it, it's like having my husband back. It didn't turn him into a "zombie" or anything, it just put his anxiety to rest so he can be himself.

He says I need it to... lol

  • I got put on a low dose of Zoloft because of PPD and some anxiety.  I've never dealt with anything like that before and was VERY nervous to start too.

Honestly, it's the best decision I ever made.  I feel like myself again.  I don't feel overwhelmed and I`m sleeping much better at night.

IMO, it's worth a try.  It did make me a bit shaky for the first few days, but after about a week I had no side effects.  I also highly recommend seeing a therapist.  This helped me also.

  • My dr. put me on zoloft at about 3 months pp for ppd.  Like you, I was wary of taking an anti-depressant, and didn't want to feel "drugged up" or anything.  I gave in and took the zoloft, and now I'm nervous to wean off of it!!  It made me feel like myself again, lessened my anxiety, I'm not crying on a daily basis, etc.  I also had no side effects (other than very vivid dreams, but that doesn't bother me).  GL, I hope you start feeling better soon!

  • I took it before I was pregnant, stopped while pg, and started again 12 weeks pp.  It really helps.  I have bad anxiety and it seems to take the edge off.  It helps with the uncontrollable worry.  I don't feel drugged or zombie like. I originally took it b/c my anxiety made me have insomnia.  It really helps.  You will feel like yourself again within 2 weeks.  GL!

I had trouble sleeping too, and was diagnosed with PPD on Wed and put on Wellbutrin. I have been taking it since then and haven't noticed anything drastic whatsoever. However, I hear zoloft does have side effects, so I'd be interested in what others experienced with it.

It can take 4-6 weeks for the Wellbutrin to be fully in your system. I've been on it for 6 weeks and started noticing a major difference about 2 weeks ago. It's the hard part w/ anti-depressents, their effects take a WHILE. GOOD LUCK.
