DD does that if she wakes up from a nap and its been a few hours since she last ate. You have approximately 1 1/2 minutes to get food into her mouth or "tones drop," as well call it.
Same thing here. If it has been longer than 6 hours since DS has eaten (and it usually has at night), when he wakes up, he is so hungry that he screams bloody murder.
Does he wake up and immediately start full-blown screaming? or does he gradually wake and start fussing while leads to screaming? My LO usually starts grumping a little first, so I try to get him and and eating before the screaming begins...

whenever i try and dream feed he either wakes up and gets upset or he wont wake up enough to eat. its a FAIL.
