Roll'n with the homies.........

Okay, so Max has mastered rolling from his back to his tummy. Yeah, yeah great I know. HOWEVER, he cannot roll back onto his back from his tummy.

Now here is the point of my post: while this is fabulous, adorable, and fun during the day, it SUCKS at night! (As if I needed to tack on another sleep issue) He is now rolling over in his sleep and then wakes up screaming. He cannot sleep on his tummy and cannot roll over. So mommy and daddy have to rescue him. It super-sux because he was starting to take really great naps too and now he is rolling in his sleep. If you have dealt w/ this, how long did it last?

I know all babies are different, and I know this is a weird question, but I'm just curious. Am I the only one w/ a wierd rollie-pollie?? And am I the only one with a baby who will not sleep on his tummy?

ETA: Check him out!

Re: Roll'n with the homies.........

  • Evelyn hated being on her tummy for the longest time.  Her pediatrician told us once she learns how to roll over we don't need to go in her room to flip her back each time.  We were paranoid at first because we were worried she couldn't breathe and she also cried.  Eventually we allowed her to learn how to self sooth and come to terms to like sleeping on her belly.  It took about two weeks for her to learn how to roll over both ways but she still accidentally flips and wakes herself up during the night.

  • He doesn't sleep on his tummy or you don't want him to sleep on his tummy?  Once they can flip themselves, docs are ok with letting them do that.  Can you try patting his back to help him go back to sleep?  Otherwise, I dunno mama.  :(  YAY for Max flip flopping over though! ;)

  • We did the same as PP, let him roll over and gradualy left him there till he learned to self soothe.  It ended up being a life saver becasue he slept much longer on his tummy and when he woke up, he self soothed back to sleep.

He will not sleep on his tummy. I am totally fine with him doing it, it might get us some needed zzzz's cause I know they sleep deeper that way. But he hates it. His daddy doesn't like to sleep on his tummy either =P.

    Weird men I have! Weird.

  • Cam roll from her tummy to her back but not the other way around, though she wants to so bad!! She loves to be on her tummy... My cousins baby had the same problem as Max so she would use a sleep positioner so her LO wouldn't roll over at all in the night... Before she go it she used receiving blankets rolled up really tight and shoved along each side of him, just along his body. Yea Max for rolling though! How fun that must be!
  • Katie - I am having the same problem. They both rolled belly to back last week. Now  for the past week they wouldn't sleep because they have been so focused on *trying* to roll from their back to their belly. Elise finally did it this morning and totally freaked herself out. She didn't even push herself up to roll back. She just laid there, face down, crying until I came in and rolled her over.

Should be a fun few weeks!

Stick out tongue He did fall asleep on his tummy last night, and although I know it's okay, I still freaked my freak a little. I'm way too over protective.

Look at your little over achievers Stef. Way to go Ana and Elise!!
