Babies: 9 - 12 Months

Ear mutilators, er, I mean, piercers- a PSA for you

My SIL had my neices' done when she was 3 months old.  I admit they were cute.  I say WERE cute because her ears grew and now they are very very crooked.  She took them out. She put my neice through that pain (AND YES GETTING YOUR EARS PIERCED HURTS.) for nothing.  YWIA

  • This is happening to my daycare lady's daughter...pierced them when she was 6months old and now they have grown so much that the one is ripping and about to rip through her lobe. Not cool. For this reason I will wait- its painful no matter when you get it done.

Yea, I'm Greek and its part of our culture as well.  Doesn't mean I'm putting Lil through it.  Nuh uh, no way.

    Yes Same for me.

  • My mom had my sister's & I's ears pierced when we were infants (I beleive a few weeks old) by our family doctor.  Anyways, my sisters did end up being crooked but later in life she got a double piercing so it was fixed.  Me on the other hand, they are straight but I HATE HATE earings.  NEVER wear them.  I'm 30 years old and I still have holes in my ears.  They will not close up.  And I know it sounds silly but I hate having holes in my ears.  I wish I was given the choice of it and if I do ever get a daughter she can decide when she's older if she wants them pierced.
  • Something I have always noticed about infants who do have pierced ears is they are always little bald girls. Makes me think the mom did it simply because she was really self consious about her baby girl being mistaken for a boy. Selfish!

  • What is the problem with ear piercing?  It's cute.  I don't have a daughter, but if I did, I'd pierce her ears when she is little.  I hope she doesn't have crooked ears or holes later on (I don't get why she would...) but if the hole ever became crooked I'd let the holes close and let her re-pierce them.  No big deal.  Anyone who calls ear piercing "mutilation" is going overboard IMO.

Wow!  What a sweet thing to do.  Put her through the pain twice.  Awesome.
