How many items to put on registry?

I think there will be aprox 20 (give or take) people at my shower. Most of the things I have on my registry list are in the $25 range, apart from 2 bigger ticket items that family could go in together on if that's what they chose. I have around 20 items on there. Is that enough or should I have more? I'm having a hard time trying to decide what to register for since we have been buying things ourselves little by little.

Thanks!?

Re: How many items to put on registry?

  • I think it's enough. I registered at Walmart, Target, and Babies R Us, and have maybe 10-15 items for each store. I registered only for what we needed.

  • I registered for 39 items only because I have not bought a THING yet.  Don't pick stuff to register for if you don't know what you want, some people will either do registry or surprise you.

I dont understand why people register for small things like bottle nipples, but they say they register for everything they might want because there is some registry completion discount coupon that you get if you buy the remaining items yourself.

  • I would add quite a few more.  (Some) people at my showers were generous.  Also, it doesn't hurt to let them have more choices....so hopefully you get things that you register for!

  • I put everything I might possibly want on mine for 2 reasons:

    1)  Originally, I didn't know I was having a shower and I used it as a checklist so I wouldn't forget anything

    2)  And depending where you go, you get completion coupons.  I'm planning on buying my bigger items using the discount from that.

Now that I'm having a shower, I figure it also gives people more variety to choose from.  Also, people from work may want to go in on a bigger item.  It makes it easier for them to pick out gifts.  And I still have my checklist Smile

  • I have 50 people coming to my shower and I registered for 103 things. I have narrowed down to all the things I need and a few fun things as well. I really don't expect to get it all but I figured it would be a good way to remember all the things I want to get for the baby as well.

  • Okay so am I just greedy?! I have probably 100 items at Target and probably 60 items at BRU.

I am having 50 people at my shower and want to give lots of options and variety. If it makes any difference prices range from $3.00-$200.00. So if people like to get lots of little things like bottles, bibs, etc they can or if they'd rather chip in for a big gift they can.

I can't imagine looking at a list of 20 things where 15 other people have already shopped and I'm stuck buying something I don't like. That is when I would make my own little gift and probably end up getting things they don't like. Just my two cents.

  • We put everything we thought we'd need (within reason) on ours. Some people buy several items and everyone wants to have things to choose from. My registry had about 100 items ranging from $5 to $229. We did not register for little things like clothes, receiving blankets, towels, or washcloths- we figured people would get us those things anyway (and they did!).
  • I would add just a few more items, maybe around the $10 range in case some guest have already got you something not on your registry and they want to get you something small from your registry. . .haven't had my shower yet but I registered for ooodles of items, ranging from $5 - $100. Also put giftcards are okay on registry.
  • I was a chronic registerer due to my grandmother's input. I registered at target, kohls, babies r us and JC Penny.  I did register for multiple for smaller items, none of my items were over 75 dollars. My family each pitched in and bought all the furnature and DH's parents got our travel system and pack and play before the shower.

My grandmother's reasoning for adding multiples: "Some people have credit cards or coupons for certian stores and some stores let you use multiple coupons at one time. Some stores have senior discounts too! If people buy stuff on sale they will buy more."

You got to love those shopping experts in your family. lol.

  • min has between 50-60 items...ranging from $3-100. I dont expect to get all of it, but I did want to have it on there so I can go through it after my shower and get the stuff I think we still need.
