Recommend your Stroller/ Carseat Travel System!

I know it is a little early but my grandparents are buying this for us and they have been bugging me about picking one out so they can purchase it before they leave for their trip to Florida. I have been looking around and getting very overwhelmed. I just wanted to ask your opinions and see what you liked and disliked about yours!

Re: Recommend your Stroller/ Carseat Travel System!

  • Baby Bargins recommends Graco carseats and strollers, although they don't advocate travel systems. DH and I decided to go with a Graco system from Target. It was $100 less that those at Babies R Us. Obviously we haven't gotten to use it yet, but in trying them out, it is what we liked. It also seemed to be the best bang for our buck.

HTH, good luck and congrats that someone wants to get it for you. That's awesome!

  • I bought Sarah's Graco Quattro Tour Deluxe Travel System.  It got very good ratings in Baby Bargains and is super cute and gender neutral.

ETA: The stoller and carseat indivdually got good ratings.  It wasn't reviewed as the travel system.

  • from my personal experience... I would not get a travel system.  There were very FEW times that I felt the need to put the carrier on a stroller.  I would much rather get a nice stroller that lays down completely but will last you for a while.  a few of my friend's have a BOB and I was in total stroller Envy about it.

In the stores, there were many times I would just wear Avery instead of putting her in her car seat on a cart too.

  • We didn't get a travel system. But, we did get the Baby Jogger City Elite, which I LOVE. (All time favorite baby item by far.) It is light for a 3-wheeled stroller, handles like a breeze and is great for tall people.

We bought the car seat converter bar so that it can be used as a travel system. We use it with the Graco Snugride 32 infant carrier.

  • We got the Graco Metrolite in the Regal pattern.  Like previous posters said graco seats are rated high in baby bargains and I like the fact that the metrolite well is light.  Of course we haven't used it yet but the stroller part fits fine with room to spare in the trunk of my Accord, we wheeled it around the store and outside at home and it was easy to push, easy to manuever, etc.  We are installing the base in the car this weekend so I hope that is easy as well.

How sweet of your grandparents :)

  • Thanks guys! This definitely gives me something to think about and research!!
  • I bought the Chicco Key Fit carseat and the Trevi stroller.  The trevi stroller is lighter than the travel system stroller.  The car seat still snaps into it to make a travel system.  I love the carseat and I have only used the stroller to go around the neighborhood but I am happy with it.
  • we have peg perego items - the pliko p3 and primo viaggio carseat. I love them. The carseat is a little heavy, but it is soo sturdy and has lots of padding for baby. The stroller is actually one of the lightest full size strollers I found. It's really easy for me to get in and out of the car. The color choices are GREAT!:) I would recommend going to a well-stocked store (BRU here didn't have peg) and comparing them side by side. It really made me appreciate the differences in quality and features of both the carseat and stroller.

  • We have the Chicco Cortina. I have loved it, but now we use her umbrella stoller more than the big one. I wish that we would have gotten Lydia's stroller or a Bob.
  • We also got the Chicco Cortina Travel System.  I really liked it alot.  I super dee duper LOVED the infant seat (comes with the Keyfit) and was sad to give it up when we switched to a convertible seat.  He just always seemed to fit in it so nicely and it was soooo easy to install.  Even when he turned 1 he still had plenty of stretch room where his feet did not touch the seat back of the car (this is a problem with many infant seats).  I just really loved everything about that seat.  The stroller was just okay IMO.  I loved the way it looked, it pushed smoothly and nicely and I got compliments on it alot.  It's just that full size strollers are pretty bulky...true for most all of them I think.  I don't think I would have changed my choice, but I was definitely ready to move to an umbrella stroller once it was time is all.
  • We had the Chicco Travel system as well.  I LOVED the carseat and was very sad to move to a convertible, but the I would not buy the travel system again.  The stroller is okay...but it's bulky, hard to get in and out of the car, etc.

I received a BOB jogging stroller as a gift and I absolutley LOOOOOOVE this stroller.  I don't leave home without it- I use it in the grocery store, mall, absolutley everywhere.  If I had it to do over again, I would have bought the carseat and then the adapter for the BOB...much more versatile in my opinion.  The Chicco stroller is just collecting dust in our garage now-  I am thinking of selling it on Craigslist :)

This is exactly the reason that I got the Graco Snugride and the Snap and Go stroller - tiny and portable.  Yes, I did end up buying another stoller later, but the Snap and Go is only $60 or so.  Totally worth it.

This exactly! Most strollers of this size are big and bulky. We bought the Chicco umbrella stroller and love it. Its all we have used for the past year.

Also, check out the book Baby Bargains. It has a good write up on all travel systems, car seats, and strollers to help you choose.
