WWYD? Planning DS Bday around Due Date?

My official DD is 10-20-09, but will have this baby by 10-14 at the latest (due to extremely fast births and other issues).  My DS's Bday is 10-11.  Of course this baby can come when ever it wants after 37wks, so I am at a loss of when to throw DS's party.  I dont' know if I should plan it 1 wk early (around the 4th) or that same weekend of the 11th.

    I'm in a similar situation... technically due 1 week before DD's 1st birthday.

    If I were in your exact situation I'd probably plan your older one's party AFTER the actual date instead of before.  I figure there's a better chance that you will have already had your new LO by then and hopefully in a better position to actually throw a birthday party.  I'd also call in some reinforcements (grandparents, friends, etc.) to help plan and host the party, because obviously with a new LO around, you'll need some help.

    Could you do it really early instead or really late? I think I'd probably have it late Sept or very early Oct or wait and have it late Oct. you can still do something special on his actually birthday.?

    I'm deal with the same issue, DS's birthday is Dec 9, I am due Dec 2 so I think I am going to do it a few weeks late, but then keep DS away from all the little toddlers. I mean we won't do anything big, just a few neighbors over for few hours. ?

    Your DS is turning 2, right?  At that age I don't think they're quite as aware yet so I would do it early...the week earlier like you mentioned.  Then I would make sure to have a big cake and presents still on his birthday.  If he was turning 3, I would say to do it the weekend of his birthday.

    By "other issues" do you mean you have any history of or reason to think you might go early? If so, I would go even earlier then 1 week early, just in case. Otherwise, I think a week early would be fine.

    I'd personally much rather do it before then after. Dealing w/ planning, cleaning, prepping, then thank you notes and such can be time consuming and I'd rather have that over with before adding a NB to the mix!

    Thanks ladies!! Yeah I think 2wks early may be the way to go-he is turning 2 so won't really know the difference and this way he *hopefully* will still have HIS day and won't have to interupt it with a sister being born!
