Could you please let me know where you were when your water broke? I am terrified about my water breaking at an inoportune time and I'm just curious if this is a legitimate concern or not.

To be honest, it seems as if a lot of mother's "water" never breaks on their own for them.

I had to have mine broken for me in the hospital.

It started to break while I slept. Then it TOTALLY broke at the hospital... and it was NASTY!

In the hospital bed...I had just gotten up to pee...once I got back into bed, laid down, I felt a warm trickle running down the inside of my thigh....I thought to myself, "I couldn't have just peed on myself...I just went!"....nope, water broke! Once I stood up it GUSHED!!! LOL!

The OB had to break mine when I was in the hospital and my cervix wouldn't dilate past 5 cm. (I had been in active labor for 12+ hours at that point.)

Doc broke it when I was nearly 5cm.

Most womens' water doesn't break on it's own (you can google for the exact statistic if you are so inclined.) Totally not something you should worry about!

In bed, don't worry, you can't control it. By the time I got out of the car at the hosp. they rushed a wheelchair to me and I was pouring like Niagara Falls. Hope they cleaned that thing!

In bed, it was 11:45 at night. And thank goodness...I didn't realize that once it starts it doesn't stop, I had to sit on the toilet until right before we walked out the door!! Ugh

Watch out for thunderstorms, or changes in the barrometric pressure. That's what caused mine to break at 11:30 pm on the couch w/ my DH watching a movie. I think I've read somewhere that your water breaks in only 10% of pregnancies.

In the car on the way to the hospital but I had already been having contractions for 30 hrs at that point and I was 5 cm dilated when I got to the hospital.

On my parents' sofa - had been having contractions all day so we knew to be ready. I have read (and found helpful) the suggestion to travel with a spare pair of underwear and pants during the last month.
