  I think you can.  Go into 'all friends' and they should be there, with the request pending.  I'd try there.  GL!

  you can delete someone. they don't get a notice or anything but they might notice if they're not your friend anymore...

  Yup, just go to the person's page and select Remove from Friends (along the left hand side).

  It's not me, is it??????    Actually I'm not even sure if we are FB friends...

  I don't know that you can....but you can un-friend them if they accept.

  lol- it's not an EFFer

  i actually sent her a friend request today. she hasn't confirmed me as her friend yet. i want to cancel the request before she did.

  Ouch! You can un-friend someone, but if Papagena's suggestion doesn't work, I don't know what else to suggest about un-requesting. People can get unreasonably touchy about this, though, and I hope it doesn't wind up being a pain for you!

  you can cancel a request.  I've done it before- I forget how though.

  You can block the person - it cuts off all contact and they you can unblock them.  If the remove pending request click doens;t work.
