ergo users- infant carrier question

Hi!

One of my twins seems to be turning into a 'hold me all the time' baby and I would like to be able to get some things done at home so I have been experimenting with my ergo finally this morning!

I watched the video and tried both of the ways they show- where you put the baby in already in the infant insert & where you put the insert in first & then the baby... I think I like the 2nd one better b/c my babies are still pretty small (somewhere b/w 7 & 8 lbs) at 4 weeks and so she sits pretty low in there- I felt like if I wasn't looking down constantly she could turn her head right into the cushy insert.

So I'm curious how you like to use the infant insert and if you have any tips esp if you used it with a smaller baby?

THanks !

Re: ergo users- infant carrier question

  • I never used the infant insert.  I was always afraid the baby would skootch down too low.

I used a MyBabyNest carrier, which held her practically in the fetal position against me, closer than I could get with the Ergo (which we didn't start using till she was 3 months).  It's also not as bulky.  People also have good luck with the MobyWrap, but I thought the Nest was just simpler for me.

  • Hey there!  I notice the same thing when I try to put mine in the ergo - though I've only tried it with H since she's bigger (probably about 6lbs. now).

I have a Moby, but I have a heck of a time getting it on right.  I think I need an idiot's guide to it or something.  To me, it's not very convenient when you have a crying baby who just wants to be held.

We have a hold-me-all-the-time baby too.  Right now I have him sleeping in the boppy next to me - and I'm waiting for the other to crash.  Mine DO NOT sleep during the day.  But I try not to complain too much because they're pretty good at night - they feed and then go right back down.

Hope things are going good for you!

Oh, and not to totally hijack your post - but how are the feedings going?  I successfully did a semi simul-feed today.  Took a bit longer with diaper changes and everything, but it worked with minimal fussing.  So we've made (a little) progress.

  • Hey Sara!

All is ok here... I have had a lot of family stuff in the last 4 weeks (my dad is very sick and in the hospital in another state :( ) but things are going ok at home. Today I had 5 back to back feedings with both of them wanting to eat at the same time & screaming when they weren't being fed. It was not fun at all. I had to go wake up my husband a few minutes ago to help me b/c I just couldnt get through the feeding, neither one would eat well & they just kept screaming. Argh- I felt terrible waking him up during his 'shift'. I have yet to master the simul-feed- I feel like it will be easier once they have better neck control? I have done some stuff with the boppies but sometimes their heads loll to the side and then formula starts pouring out the sides of their mouths and then the burping thing gets in the way.

I was actually getting on here to post for advice about what to do when one is screaming while you're feeding the other!

My other issue is getting some child care help- with no family in the area and most friends at work or with kids of their own, I am struggling to do this every day on my own (even though I have been lucky not to have to until this week for the most part, but I feel like I can't get anything done AT ALL except feeding!)...

I hope things are good w/ you & your babies!!! Definitely pass on any simulfeed tips you have ;)
