TTC After a Loss

I'm back... puppy got attacked yesterday

My poor little puppy got attacked at the dog park yesterday by a HUGE mastiff.

I went in the morning to sign the paperwork for Sophi's stone and turn in the pic we want to use.  I figured I could take Mia to the doggy park before going back to work to de-stress.  That turned out to be a BAD idea.

As soon as we walked in the gate this guy's mastiff ran straight to my puppy and attacked her.  He picked her up by the neck and started shaking.  I screamed so loud my throat still hurts this morning.

Luckily she curled up into a little ball and he finally let go of her long enough for her to jump into my arms.  She's mostly just bruised up and only has one puncture wound on her neck, but she's recovering quickly.

AND the stupid owner didn't even apologize or anything, he just mouthed off about how the park is for dogs 20 lbs and over (Mia is 25 lbs but built like a mini-greyhound so she looks skinny).

I couldn't sleep last night just seeing the image in my head of that huge dog shaking her.  She couldn't sleep well either b/c she's so bruised so we just cuddled most of the night.

  • Oh Natalie that is terrible!  Im sorry your pup got attacked.  That guy is ignorant for not apologizing for his dogs behavior..  Dogs that attack other dogs should not be allowed at any dog park..  Want me to go kick him in the shin for you?

Im glad she is ok though.  How scary!

  • That's awful!! I'm glad she is ok. That man is an idiot, and his dog should be on a short leash.

  • Poor puppy! That's awful. I hope she's getting a ton of milkbones and squeaky toys today.
  • oh no!  i'm so sorry to hear that.  i'm glad she wasn't seriously injured.  and umm to the jerk- forget a weight limit at the park, his dog shouldn't be there if it is agressive and going to attack.  is your dog spayed?

we had an incident at the dog park like that.  our dog is almost 40 lbs and this ginormous horse dog ran right over and put half of our dog in his mouth and tried to swallow.  luckily his owner is some 300 lb body builder and he picked his dog up in the air (with our dog hanging out of his mouth) and flipped him over on his back in a submissive position, all ceasar milan style and then his dog let ours go.  the guy apologized a million times but DH was still ready to go.  lol.

  • Poor thing.  What a jerk that owner was!

  • That's so terrible!  I'm glad Mia is doing okay, Mastiffs are not nice dogs.  My DH was bitten by one on the back of the leg and it's our friend's dog.  They still have it even though they have to keep it locked in their basement all the time.

  • I am so sorry about your poor puppy. That owner is an arogant ass. If your dog does not get along with others or is known to play rough, you should not bring it to the dog park. I hate when people don't take responsibility for their pets or their own stupid decisions. I hope your puppy feels better soon. You should go get some Frosty Paws for Mia.

I agree with this! Jeez, people. If your dogs aggressive, don't bring him to a park!

  • WHAT A JACKA$$.... It does not matter if the dog is 20lbs or not, if you cannot control your animal it should not be running free anywhere, let alone a dog park.

OMG me too!!! How could the owner not even say he is sorry!! I soooo would have called animal control on his a$$ it probably wasnt the first time he attacked another dog and we can only hope he hasnt attacked a person before

  • Oh Natalie, I am so sorry you had to go through this, and on the day you where dealing with Sophie's stone!  What horrible timing!

Can you report the owner to the dog park people?  I know some dog parks have committees that regulate things like that?  It sounds like this guy needs to be reported- for the safety of the dogs!

If I could I would reach out and give you a huge hug!

Exactly!! I'm at least glad to hear that your puppy is doing okay. Confused

  • Oh my gosh! What a jerk! As the owner of a big dog (80 lb lab) its important you can control your dog. I'm dumbfounded by this guy and his dog. I'm glad your pup is ok!
  • Oh no! poor puppy!
