Preemies

new

Hi everyone! I had our baby Aug. 25 at 33 weeks and 2 days. She is doing awesome, and they tell us she is almost ready to come home. I'm so excited, i just want my baby girl with me!! She is still having desats when she is eating, we have to really watch her and pace her. Has anyone else's baby done this, and did they out grow it? My husband is having total anxiety attacks thinking of her coming home like this, but she is basically fine. Thanks for any help or advice!

Re: new

  • My daughter was born at 34 weeks and she spent 19 days in the NICU. At the end we were having the same issue.  She had to learn pacing because she was having desats when she ate too.  That was her last hurdle before she could come home.  It sounds like you are doing all the right things.  We just really focused on pacing and eventually it just clicks.  They definitely outgrow it.

One other thing was that we tried to be at the hospital to do as many feedings as we could.  We live 45 minutes away from the hospital and we have another child at home, so we had been doing 3 feedings.  But, then we noticed that she seemed to have more desats with certain nurses. She was only having a handful of desats, and then with this one nurse she all of a sudden had 17 desats!!!! The last 4 or 5 days she was in the NICU we were there to do most of the feedings.  It helped her with the pacing and it ended up helping us to feel more comfortable about doing it all ourselves when she came home.

I hope it clicks for your daughter very soon and she is home before you know it. :)
