Anyone induced and had vag. birth and not c/s?

I have been having very bad headaches for the past 4 days, my BP is fine and no protein in my urine but I do get blurry vision. The Dr. said they will induce me on my due date (saturday) if I wanted to be and if the headaches continued. I'm not affraid of being induced, but I do know the chance of a c/s is higher. Anyone here get induced and end up delivering vaginally? I'm 2cm dilated 85% effaced and the baby is a -2 station.

  • I was induced at 37wks 3 days and delivered both vaginally
  • Me.  Granted it was my 2nd but I was also 2cm and he was born in under 12 hrs from when the induction started.

  • I was induced at 2 cm and 90%, baby at 0.  I went from 2 cm to 9 1/2 cm in about 2 and a half hours... but then I was stuck at 9 1/2 for 10 hours.  Most doctors would have done a c-section and I was really close to having one... but I did end up having a vaginal birth.  I think a lot of it depends on how section happy your doctor is.
  • ME!  It was a pretty intense experience because the epidural did not get ordered until long after I asked for it (I have no idea why and plan on calling someone on this screw up when I feel like I can deal with it diplomatically!).  I definitely suggest getting the epi because (obviously not by choice) I labored until 8cm with no pain meds and the pitocin made it pretty bad.  I am still very glad, however, that I did not end up with a C/S.  GL!
  • I was 2cm dilated, 70% effaced when I was induced. I have no clue what station she was. I was given Pitocin at 9:30 AM, and delivered vaginally at 5:16 PM. I had a wonderful induction experience.

    Good luck!

ETA: I opted for an epidural around 1:30 PM.

  • I was induced at 38 weeks and 3 days and had a vaginal delivery.. be prewarned.. the pitocin makes the contractions suck a$$  and if your like me I had pre e so high blood pressure.. I was admited in to the hospital with a 188/118 bp reading you will have to have magnisum sulfate if your BP is still high to ward off seisures.. the mag works against the pitocin so for every 3 dials the pitocin goes up... your really only going up one or two because the mag is fighting it...

I did get a vaginal delivery but I had to have and EPI which i didnt want to have..

    Good Luck to you. :)

  • Can't really answer your question, but have they done blood work as well? I had the exact same issues (horrible headaches and vision issues, but no protein and my BP was only high once, otherwise it was fine) and they found that my uric acid (sp) levels were far too high which often presents itself before protein does.
  • I was induced at 41w 1d and had a vag delivery.  I, too, was worried I would have a c-section, but I didn't.  I was not at all dilated when I went in and it took 3 attempts to soften my cervix before they could dilate me enough to induce.
  • Induced at 38 weeks, went fine, only pushed for about 20 mins. I was 2 cm, 50% effaced, -2 station.

  • I was induced at 34w2d for severe pre-e and had a successful vaginal delivery with no epi.  The started pitocin at 6am, broke my water at 9am, and DD was born at 5:34pm.  I don't have anything to compare the contractions to, but I felt like they only got bad in the last 1-2 hours.  We did get very close to needing a c-section since DD wasn't doing well with the last contractions, but after my doctor left the room to order the c/s, DD dropped like a rock and arrived within 10 minutes!

  • My water broke, I had no contractions, and I was not dilated at all. They started Pitocin and 3 hours later my son was born after 3 short pushes.  It was a very easy delivery.   Good luck.  Induction does not always mean C/S.

  • me...at 38 weeks 2 cm dilated...gave birth 2.5 hours after I was induced and didn't feel a thing thanks to the godlike anasthesiologist!
  • Yup! Complication free :)
  • Yup, yup. And it all went relatively quickly, actually. I did end up having an epidural, which was not in my original plan, but oh well. (By induction birth story is somewhere in my blog, if you're interested).

  • me! i was 3cm 80% before i went in at 39w2d. i labored for 13 hours, got the wonderful epi, and pushed for 20 minutes.

  • I was induced on Saturday (my due date) and had a really fast vaginal delivery!

You might even be more favorable than I was. When we arrived at the hospital Saturday morning, I was 3.5 cm, 70-80% and +1 with ZERO contractions. They broke my water and we were off to the races: 5 hours later, he was in my arms! Good luck!

  • I had a very easy induction that ended in a vaginal delivery.
  • I got induced and Max was out in three hours (once the pitocin was started). My BP was super high. First she broke my water (worked for DD, but not for DS). Then three hours later, she started me on pitocin. I had it on for about an hour, then turned it off because those contractions started coming fast and hard! The contractions continued on their own and Max was out at 5:15.

Also, I had no pain meds. Other than the pitocin, fully natural and med free birth.

  • Me!  I was 39 wks, already 4cm dilated. Very easy experience!
  • 40w6d when I went in for my induction.  I was 2 cm and 50% when I was admitted. DS was at -1 station. The pitocin was started at 8am, OB broke my water at 8:40am, checked a little after noon and was at 5 cm, an hour later I was at 10, and I had DS at 2:50pm in 3 pushes.  I would have had him sooner if my dr could have gotten in the room and set up faster!  Great experience overall.

  • ME!  And she was 9lbs 15oz and 16 days late (over 2 weeks)!  IMO the more relaxed you are that you can do it, the better off you'll be.  Good luck!  I'm sure it will be great!

  • I was. My water broke at 38 weeks and I was only 1 cm and 20% effaced. After my water broke nothing else happened, I never started contractions on my own so they gave me the pit 6 hours after it broke. DS was born 8 hours after the start of the pit and that was with two hours of pushing. His heartrate wasn't good right before we started pushing but as soon as we started pushing he was back in the 'normal' range, so no talk of c-section at all for us. Good luck on Saturday if you go that far!

  • My water broke te day before my due date but I had to have Pitocin because I was not progressing and ended up delivering on my due date with foreceps.  She was never going to come out on her own and after 3 hours of pushing I was not about to end with 2 stitched areas.
  • Yes!  I was induced a week ago due to HBP.  Pitocin started at 8am and my little boy was born at 10:05pm.  The contractions felt like bad menstrual cramps until the dr broke my water at 2:30pm after which they became unbearable within about 30 minutes.  One after another with no break and very intense.  I got the epidural shortly after and was able to rest pretty comfortably until it was time to push around 8:40pm.  I ended up needing an episiotomy because baby's head just couldn't fit through.  He came out 2 contractions after that was done.  Overall, I had a very positive experience.

  • me! i was terrified to be induced but wound up having to be after getting pre-e and HELLP syndrome at 40 w 4d. it was fine, i was also 2 cm for about a week before and he was born healthy (w/o an epi) roughly 10 hrs after starting the induction
  • I've been induced twice now, due to pre-e the first time and rising blood pressure the second.  The first one did result in a c section but not ecause of failure to progress (which is usually the issue with induction).  That time I entered the hospital a figertip dilated and did fully dilate and push, but DD got stuck.

With DD2 I entered 4-5 cm dilated and 50% effacced and had a successful vaginal birth.

    Good luck!!!

  • Yes...I was induced last Saturday (week ago) at 40w 2d due to grade 3 placenta and low amniotic fluid.  Had planned all along to go natural and use Hypnobirthing, so we started with nipple stimulation with breast pump, and when that wasn't working, we chose Pitocin over breaking my water (which may have taken too long).  I was 1.5 cm and 70% effaced, station 0/+1.  The process was gradual, my HR and baby's HR stayed good in normal range.  I was able to get in the jacuzzi tub for the roughest part (7-10cm).  I had no pain meds and thank god my husband was such a great companion keeping me breathing correctly and focused thru each surge.

Though it was difficult at the time and not knowing when it would end, it was a good experience.  Good luck to you.  No matter how things go, there's an awesome prize at the end!

  • I was induced at 39 weeks and 1 day because baby was getting too big. I was 4cm dilated and 80% effaced when I went in, baby was head down and i think -2 but i forget.?

Induction went GREAT!! Started at 8am had DS at 3:58pm after 30 min of pushing. He was 9 pound even. ?

  • ME! I was 5 mins away from one, though. I pushed for 2.5 hrs, ended up having a vacuum delivery and a 3rd deg tear :(  However, in the end it was better than a c/s.

  • Me!  And I loved it!  Got an epi 6 hours in and they threatened me with a C because I was pushing for over an hour with NO progress.  Eventually my body got it figured out.
  • My water broke, but they ended up starting me on pitocin b/c of pokey labor. I had vag birth, no c/s here.

  • I started getting really bad headaches right around 38 weeks and my pre-e progressed really quickly after that and I was induced at 39w3d. I had no progress before starting the induction and delivered vaginally after 28 hours of labor.
  • ME!!!

Induced at 9am... had DS at 2:10pm after 15min of pushing!  It went super fast.  I went from a 5.5 to complete in 6min. NO JOKE.  I was threatened a CS twice with dropped heart rate because of progressing so fast but had him vag.  I also started at a 1cm at 9am.

  • Out of me and 5 friends who were induced around the same time, only 1 person had a c-section. One was extremely early, and the rest of us were 39 to 41 weeks. I was 39w 5d, and only a fingertip dilated and DD was pretty high up. Good luck

  • Me!

I was induced at 40w1d, at 1 cm and 70%. I didn't have pitocin, just cytotek and then the doc broke my water manually which got things started.

Admitted at 7:30 a.m., water broken at 4:30 p.m., epidural at 8:30 p.m. (longest 4 hours of my life, there), and baby arrived at 11:10 p.m. after only 20 minutes and 6 pushes.

    Good luck!

ETA: It took 13 hours for me to go from 1 cm to 4 cm, and then once I had the epi I went from 4 to complete in one hour!

  • I was induced because my water broke and I was not going into active labor. I was 2-3cm dilated, 90% efface and at -2 station. I progressed to 10cm no problem and actually pushed for 3 hours. I did end up having to have a c-section, but not because of a failed induction. I had one because my baby girl was 11lbs7oz and would not move pass my pelvic bone.

    Good luck!

  • Me. I was induced at 39w6d due to GD. Pitocin started at 6:20am, LO was born at 10:24pm. I pushed for 1 1/2hrs. Never threatened with a c/s, LO's heartrate was amazing the whole time. OB said the average time someone pushes with their first baby is 3 hours.
