2nd Trimester

Is anyone not buying crib bedding set?

It seems like a waste of money when you can't use the bumper or the comforter. I love all the bedding but wonder if I could put the money to a better use and just decorate the nursery not the crib. But I also want a cute nursery and wonder if I would regret not getting the whole bedding set.

Re: Is anyone not buying crib bedding set?

  • I didnt buy the bedding sets.  I got the accessories (Lamp, rug, curtain) and then coordinating sheets but I couldnt see spending $200+ per baby for items they were just going to sleep on (or not even sleep on for that matter)

  • I'm just going to buy crib sheets in the colors I like and a crib skirt to "decorate".  I think the bedding sets are a waste of money since we will not be using the bumper.

Maybe I would use the quilt for tummy play time?  But I'm just going to get the sheet and the crib skirt.  I think you can buy crib skirts seperately.

  • I was going to, but decided to buy a bunch of fabric to make my own blanket and pillows etc.... It was way cheaper and I was able to get the colors that I wanted.
  • With both DS and this baby I'm making the bedding.  It's much cheaper and I can custom design my nursery.
  • I wasn't going to but then found our adorable bedding set for only 55.99 (Plus another 18.99 for the dust ruffle).  I figure i'll use the bumper for the first month, then switch it out with a breathable.  And then use the bumper again later once baby is fully mobile.  As far as the quilt goes, I plan on keeping it draped over the back of the glider for the "decor" aspect and also to use while nursing, if needed.  My crib set was Tiddliwinks "Jungle Friends," available at Target.
  • I didn't buy (or register) for one, but mostly because it's a waste of money, not because it is unsafe. My mom is making all of my stuff at a fraction of what it would normally cost AND it is in a style that I could not find anywhere else. Babies have survived with bumpers for years.
  • I was going to get separates but, can't find anything I like.  We're buying a set but, it won't go to waste.  The quilt will be a lap quilt for me while nursing and a tummy time blanket.  I'm going to take apart the bumpers to make a valance, a bolster pillow for the glider and maybe a couple of soft toys.

  • I'm not buying one, but I did last time. I thought it was cute all together but once I took away the bumper and comforter, it was not so cute. Too bad I wasted the money but I learned my lesson for this time. I'll probably just buy a cute crib sheet or two.

  • I'm not. I'm just going to buy a couple of set of crib sheets I like and a duster and make it work. I don't see the point in buying a whole set when you can't use the main peices.

  • I never bought a full set for my DD. I was never going to use the bumper and she couldn't use the blanket so it was a waste of money.  I just got a cute colored (pale yellow) crib skirt and cute sheets.

  • We just got the accessories instead. We got the wall border, window valances and rug. We registered for the lamp because I like it, but I didn't want to spend the money. All of that for cheaper than the bedding set!

  • I didn't get a set.  I found the stuff I liked not in a set better than any set I've seen so I just got the stuff I wanted.

  • I'm skipping the set and just making a skirt to coordinate with the rest of the room.

  • Thanks! These comments make me lean even more to not buying. Now I have to be strong when we got to Babies R Us. Smile

  • We're not, but we;re also not planning on buying a crib.
  • My friend make baby quilts (big enough for a toddler bed) so in the beginning - I'll use just sheets and a dust ruffle- but no matchy-matchy set for us...

once Lo is older- he'll have a quilt
