TTC After a Loss

Nervous today

Most of you know my fiance had a stroke back in March.  Well, he's applied for Social Security Disability, and today he had to go in for a pyschiatric evaluation.  (he's applied due to mental disability more than physical disability)  I'm nervous because I'm overprotective, and I worry how hard the evaluation will be on him.  I mean, Jeremy can't read the newspaper in one sitting like he could pre-stroke.  He can't surf the internet or even look at a computer for more than 10 minutes without getting a bad headache and being 'off' the rest of the day.  If he doesn't get a good night's sleep, his whole day is affected.  I so wish I could have taken time off work to go with him... but I wouldn't have been able to actually be with him during the testing anyway.  I don't even know what exactly they're doing, just know that the evaluation was required for the SS office to make a determination.

On one hand, I hope the testing isn't too hard on Jeremy.  On the other, I hope he does really badly.  That's so horrible of me, but if he does badly, then it'll show them that he really is disabled so they'll grant him his disability.

He met with a lawyer a couple weeks ago - one of those that will review his case for free and if they think he could get disability, then the lawyer is paid 25% of the back pay (if awarded disability, you get paid back to the first day you applied).  The lawyer told Jeremy, "oh yeah, you would definitely get approved for disability.  But I won't take your case right now... come back in a few years if you're still having troubles and I'll get it approved then."  The lawyer wanted him to wait so she'd get more money.

  • I'm so sorry your family is going through this, but I hope he is able to qualify for the disability to help you out.

  • It is understandable for you to feel that way. I hope he gets approved. My step-mom has MD and it took like a year and a half for her to qualify. They gave her money from all that time. I'm sorry about the laywer. If he qualifies without using her you guys will get all the money!
