1st Trimester

Anyone else eating more junk food then usual

Before I found out I was pregnant, I was eating really well and working out.  Actually, I didn't think I would get pregnant so quickly so I was kind of hoping to lose some weight before it happened.  Anyway, as soon as I found out I was pregnant, I feel like I am eating all the time and eating a lot more junk food then usual.......ice cream, nachos, fast food.......in fact I just went shopping and stopped for a burger and fries on the way home.  I am just worried if I keep this up, I will gain about 30 pounds before I even get out of the first trimester.  Anyone else having this problem too?

Re: Anyone else eating more junk food then usual

  • Oh yes, more than ever. With DS I was eating nothing but salads and veggies and chicken during my first tri, this time its totally different. I'm feeling a little guilty and I bought a huge tub of organic spinach but I have yet to crack it open.

  • I'm the exact opposite.  I find myself eating a lot better now.  When I go get a snack I immediately go to fruit or raw veggies.

  • OH YES! The only food that sounds good is pizza, bagel bites, and pizza rolls. I really tried to eat veggies and fruits but some just made me so queasy. I started drinking v8 juice strawberry every 8oz serving is a serving of fruit and vegetable. GL

  • Oh yes....unfortunately.  A couple weeks ago I was only craving fast food (prior to being pregnant I rarely if ever ate fast food).  Now I have been craving sweets.  I ate two donuts for breakfast yesterday.  I figure it is just a phase, and tomorrow I may have a different craving....I have been giving in a little :)
  • I was in the exact same boat you were before our BFP. I was eating well, working out, the whole deal. Once we got pregnant, I stopped being so selective about what I eat and lost my energy to work out. I've put on what I consider to be too much weight already...I'm guessing about 8lbs or so (dr's appt. tomorrow will tell).

The good news is that my energy is starting to come back so I'm more active than I have been for the past two months. My plan is to get activity in every day and be more careful than I was in my first trimester. Wish me luck!

  • I am just hungry all the time, if I don't have heart burn or feel nausea.  So I went grocery shopping and stocked the fridge with healthy snacky things.

  • Nachos are my best friend these days and I worry about gaining the wrong weight for the baby. Part of my problem is I buy the junk food and its sitting in the house so why not eat it. So now I've decided that I am going to start cutting down on all the junk over the next few weeks and for every junk food item I have I have to have 2 servings of something healthy by the end of the day. Then when second trimester comes along, bye bye junk. No more stopping at the candy and cookies in the store, no more Carl's Jr, Burger King or Jack in the Box stops for ANY reason. I've told my fiance my plan so he can say no when I ask him to stop somewhere and pick me up something I shouldn't be having.
  • Meee!!!  I am in the process of becoming a registered dietitian, and I have honestly been appalled at my eating habits.  The ONLY things that sound good lately, though, are carbs, carbs, more carbs and cheese.  It's the strangest thing.  Pre-pregnancy I prided myself on my healthy eating lifestyle - but I've been struggling the past few weeks.  I'm hoping it's just a phase, but man, I'm ready for it to pass!!!
  • Just love ice cream. Like to eat it once a week.
  • I definitely want more junk food and I am giving in a little but also am forcing myself to practice some self control. My biggest issue until the past week or two was that by the time I got home I didn't have the energy to cook. So we either ate frozen pizzas and things or DH cooked something carb and meat heavy. Since I couldn't force myself to eat any meat I ended up eating mostly carbs. *Luckily* Tongue Tied the m/s kept me from eating very much at all so I haven't gained any... yet. I have a little more energy now and have been cooking more but all I want right now are Skittles and M&Ms.
  • Yes, I'm having the same problem.  After our wedding in June, I gained about 10 pounds.  We decided not to prevent getting pregnant thinking it wouldn't happen right away.... well, it happened the 2nd month and we're thrilled.  Now, I've been eating like a crazed cow and I can't fit any of my clothes.  The bella band on my pants looks tacky, so I bought a few pants in a bigger size... and I think I might be moving to maternity around 12 weeks at this point because I refuse to keep buying random bigger sizes to go over my fat/bloat.

    Rant over- thanks!

  • Weight is always an issue with me since I started this pregnancy already obese (225ish at 5'4"). I am also always hungry so I try to do small meals throughout the day, but then I feel like I am doing the wrong thing (despite knowing it is not). I think I have gained 5 pounds during my 1st tri (which ends in a few days!!) but I am trying not to at the same time since I am not supposed to be gaining really that much at this point.

  • I'm so glad I'm not the only one! All I can think about is a double quarter pounder with cheese and a side of Cheetos!
  • yes! my fav is chik fil a fries. i usually try to eat healthy but i have 2 strikes against me- the nausea and not feeling like cooking (due to nausea). i feel guilty when dh comes home and i'm not working and there's no dinner. o well growing a human is tough!
