So my friend called me this morning, she is 16 weeks along and started spotting a couple weeks ago...baby is still fine, but the dr. told her to be cautious. Then yesterday early morning she woke up to strong contractions enough to where she went into the ER. (She has two kids and could tell what was going on). So, at the ER the on call dr. examines her for less than five minutes, tells her everything looks good and it is probably just legiment stretching since she's into her 2nd trimester. She said he was totally dismissive and could care less. Then, after receiving the voice mails from yesterday, her OB/GYN (we go to the same dr...who is friggin' amazing) calls her and tells her to come in immediately. He examined her and put her on bed rest because her cervix has softened...
While I'm praying for her to be able to keep this one, I'm infuriated. When I was m/c at 17 weeks I went to the same ER and, without checking the baby and asking me less than 10 questions, they sent me home telling me those pains were constipation or digestive cramps. Four hours later I m/c at home by myself (DH was out getting the laxative prescribed by the shithead ER doctor).
Whatthefuck is up with the ER doctors up here? Are they as dismissive in other areas as they are here?
Re: Alaska ERs SUCK
That sucks, I hope that everything is ok for your friend and am sorry that you have both had bad experiences there.
My only gripe was the hospital made me take a pregnancy test and then hold onto in the waiting room until meeting the surgeon for my D&C. We had already had ultrasounds confirming the heartbeat and the lack there of. Surprise, surprise I still peed pregnant after my missed miscarriage.
