Adoption

5 yr old's definition of adoption

My friend's 5 yr old daughter told her classmates she was adopted.  When some of them were confused, she clarified for them:

"Adoption is when kids don't have an owner and so someone else decides to be their owner and then the kids call them mom and dad."

  • LOL love it!

My daughter is almost 4 and when we ask her what adoption is she just says "someone else is gonna have a baby and that baby is gonna come live with us and be MY baby".

TTC since May 2006. After 3 failed Clomid cycles, 2 failed Injectibles/IUIs, 2 failed IVFs and 1 failed FET, we moved on to adoption!

  • I teach 3rd grade and overheard one of my students at recess explaining to the other kids that she was adopted.  When one of the kids asked what that meant she said, "It's when your birth mommy loves you so much that she knows she can't care for you the way she should so she finds a mommy and daddy that can, then you have 2 mommies that love you."  I thought it was super cute and a pretty good understanding for an 8-year-old.

    Yes

  • One of my 1st grade kiddos at school said something similar.  H explains that his "tummy mommy" couldn't take care of him, so now he lives with his "heart mommy" : )

This actually made me tear up! So amazing...

  • My 4 year old neice said that my baby is coming from "another tummy" to live in my house and play Barbies with her when she gets older. (She's already decided that we are getting a girl!)
