I LOVE Vera! It was my favorite girl name for years and years. I remember when I was about 10 or 11 and my friends and I talked about baby names. All my friends thought Vera was so strange. Recently, I had a childhood friend ask if Vera was still on the list. I still think it's beautiful, but Dh would never consider it.
Heidi and Helen are names I really like, but would never use.
My brother's first girlfriend, whom he dated for about 9 years, was named Vera, so that name is very off-limits for me. I prefer Beatriz to Beatrix, but that's just a language thing. I can honestly say I have never heard the name Birdie. Where does it come from?
I don't have the guts to use Xiomara or Esperanza, at least not if I expect to raise her in the U.S.
Birdie was Sandra Bullock's character on Hope Floats. I've loved it ever since. It's probably a nickname for Bernadette or something but I just think it's so cute.
I would possibly consider Hazel if my little girl (if it's a girl) wouldn't have red hair and blue eyes. I just feel like everyone will say, "But your eyes aren't hazel, Hazel." or something super annoying like that.
Love Beatrix & Xiomara (knew someone in college named this, she went by Xio).
Also love: Cressida, Liselotte, Godelieve (pronounced: kho-de-LEE-va) & Katelijn (pronounced: kah-teh-LAYNE) - the last two names are Flemish (like my DH), and I think both are truly beautiful.
I'm a Hazel lover too but DH doesn't like it. The girl name I don't have the guts to use is Winifred. It is my mother's mn and I have always loved it. I haven't heard the name Vera forever! I think it's comeback will be arriving soon...
Beatrix is on our list. I love Vera also, but DH won't go for it. My names I don't have the guts to use or DH won't let me are...
Ailsa Isolde Avalon Verity Aoife Hennrietta Liesl Marilla Ingrid
For boys, the only ones I can think of are Leroy, Titus, and Simeon.
Oooh, I really like Isolde, Liesl and Ingrid.
Oooo I love all of those names! Isla is one of my favorite girl names but I dont think I could ever use it b'c one of my friends just named her little girl Isla.
For a boy I really love love the name Lysander, but I don't think I'd have the guts to use it.

I love Heloise but don't think I would have the guts to use it. Too much mispronounciation/spelling issues. I still think it's just about the most beautiful name ever.
If I had an Irish last name, I would be tempted by Oona (the name of Charlie Chaplin's wife), but probably wouldn't have the guts.
Eleanor Noelle - 18/05/12
Claire Elisabeth - 16/-5/10
Sunshine or Poppy - These are definitely right up my alley in terms of style of names, but my DH would just die.
I went to college with a girl who's name was Sunshine and it was sooo fitting for her and she loved her name. Plus, I love Poppy Montgomery's name from Without a Trace
My great grandmother was named Birdie- short for Bertha but I don't think you'd want to use that name! I didn't even know it was Bertha- I had to look it up because she never went by anything but Birdie.
I love Scarlett and Katarina but DH just laughed when I mentioned them.
3 IUI's and 2 IVF's later- Brady arrived. Born at 36 weeks after PUPPS and pre-e/HELLP.
IUI- BFN IVF #1 -BFP! Allie is our 2nd IVF baby. Born at 36 1/2 weeks after pre-e again
Briony--from Attonement. I like to pronounce it like Brian-ee. DH HATES it! I also love Harper and Rowan, but I am bummed at how popular they are becoming.
Mischa and Story for girls. I wouldn't use Mischa because our Russian friends would think that was SO weird.
I think Story is way cute but couldn't use it for a child. I might for my next foster dog though DH thinks I am insane for liking this name, he thinks it is the weirdest name.
I also like Sasha but our friends named their DD Sasha, so I don't want to use it.
Helena- I like it, such a beautiful name but it's just nms for my own child.
Mave- I don't like it spelled "correctly" so it's out. Plus I heard my FIL say the name and it immediately turned me off to it. It sounded harsh coming out of his mouth although I think it sounds soft coming from mine. Who knows.
Wow we have similar naming styles. If we have a boy, he will be Graham Douglas.
On our girl list was: Hazel, Adelaide, Beatrix, Vera, Isla, Saffron, Catalina, Charlotte, Scarlett, Matilda, Sicely, Tessa, Maren, Merit and Penelope.
I LOVE Tess (not Tessa as much), Matilda is beautiful, I know an adorable girl named Merritt and I would use Penelope if it didn't clash with our last name. Good picks! We obviously both love Hazel. Maybe I should use Charlotte Hazel. Hmmm...

My friend all growing up was Bryanie. Pronounced Bry-nee. Definitely unique! Her grandfather was Bryan. I nearly died when I saw Atonement and heard it (although spelled differently).
I like a lot of the names that have been mentioned, especially Hazel. DH vetoed that one right away.
I also like Vivian (big fan of Pretty Woman), Stella, Lucille, Macy, Ingrid, Adelaide, Evie, and Penelope.
When I was little, my Barbie was always called Vickie and I knew for sure my daughter would be Victoria. I guess my tastes have changed bc it's so NMS now.

I think Jude is such a kick-a$$ girl's name. She's cool. She's gorgeous. She's smart. Don't mess with her. Unfortunately, I know somewhere down the road, someone would call her Judy, and it would kill me.

you could still do birdie as a nn for something else - cute!
the last college i worked at, we had two xiomara's in an incoming class of about 500 - very cool name!
Love Beatrix & Xiomara (knew someone in college named this, she went by Xio).

Athena

Katrina (such a beautiful name, but I feel like the Hurricane ruined it...)
Diana (does not go at all with our last name)
Faith
Hillary (I feel like everyone would ask "as in Clinton?")
Beatrix is on our list. I love Vera also, but DH won't go for it. My names I don't have the guts to use or DH won't let me are...

Bradford (family name)
Victoria (it was my "fancy" alias when I was about 7. My mom had a friend named Vicky who ruined the name.)
Cameron (its my first cousin's name, who we see all the time)
When I was younger I swore I would name my son Obadiah, I think its from a mythological story, pronounced O-ba-die-uh. I won't be using it!
Mischa and Story for girls. I wouldn't use Mischa because our Russian friends would think that was SO weird.
I think Story is way cute but couldn't use it for a child. I might for my next foster dog though

Obadiah is a book of the Bible in the Old Testament, named after the prophet with the same name. I agree that it is a pretty unique name!
