XP: small cars and carseats?

I posted on 3rd Tri, but I figured you ladies would have more experience in this.

Does anyone else have a small car?  I have a ford focus.  Have you tried to put a carseat in the back yet?  We just tried and it doesn't really look like it is going to fit.  I don't know what our options are.  We can't afford a new car and all the carseats are about the same size.  We just purchased a Britax Marathon. 

Any suggestions?  TIA!

    you are supposed to put the carseat in the middle. It wont fit there?

    Yeah, that is where we were trying to put it.  We would have to move both seats up and then it would still be wedged in between them.

    I had a corolla xrs when I had my first DD and the same seat, we put it behind the passenger seat because my DH needs seats all the way back to fit. It works just don't put it in the middle.

    I have a 2 door Toyota Echo, and Evenflo car seat that fits fine in the middle. Have you considered a different brand?

    We drive a VW Golf and definitely have issues with the car seat, which right now is even just the infant one (a Peg Perego). The middle seat does not have the LATCH system, so we had to put him behind the passenger seat. Still, it takes up so much room in the back that no one can ride in the passenger seat now because it's pushed up so far that it's just not safe with an air bag that close.

    We have a corolla and our chicco keyfit 30 fits in the back middle... barely. Fortunately DH and I are fairly short, so our seats aren't far back.

    Before we bought our carseat, we asked to install the floor model in our car. It was a huge relief to know it would fit! I strongly suggest it.

    We had to look for the smallest car seat we could find for our truck.  The Evenflo Titan Elite fits perfect!

    I have an 03 Corolla and our Graco fits fine in the middle even with both seats all the way back (we're tall) we just don't recline the seats as much. We also installed the Marathon- rear facing to see how it would fit and it seemed to fit fine for us. I feel like the Corolla has a lot of leg room in the back seat but my FIL's 09 Focus doesn't have as much.
