help, call ped ?

DD is 1 month old & hasn"t pooped in 3 1/2 days! ?I breastfeed & supplement w/ 1 or 2 bottles of formula at night . ?what should i do? i have her 1 month appt. already scheduled for next wed

  • They start to poop much less frequently as time goes on.  Call and they might have you bring her in, but unless her stomach is swollen or tender they probably will tell you to just wait it out, or do mild remedies like a little water or prune juice.

  • After a while, it's normal for bf'd babies to go a week or more w/out having a bm.  Is she straining and not going or are the bm's that she does have small and hard?  If not, and she doesn't seem uncomfortable in any way, I'd personally wait and mention it to the ped on Wed.
  • It's normal for your baby to go longer between bowel movements.

    As long as your LO doesn't seem in pain or have a hardened or distended abdomen, then you can wait till Wednesday.

    FWIW, my LO routinely goes 7+days.

  • Thanks for your responses, they really helped. ?Hopefully she'll poop tonight. ?If not, I'll call the pediatrician tomorrow and see if it can wait until wed. before I bringing her in.
