3rd Trimester

A horror story that has a happy ending

I just came back from the hospital yesterday after giving birth on Aug. 31. I had became the most popular person to talk about at the hospital because I was in labor for a total of 25 hours. I wrote a post about it around the time and asked if it was what I thought it was and a couple of mothers-to-be suggested that it was and to call the doctor or go to the hospital. SO I went and saw my doctor, he checked me said I was 2 cm and wasn't really dilating enough. He felt he couldn't really do anything b/c I just turned 38 weeks and stopped dilating. He sent me home and prescribed me Tylenol w/ codene and told me to get some rest.( I haven't slept the whole night before going to the hospital.)

I took two regular Tylenol at first b/c I was nervous taking anything w/ codene. It didn't work and it seemed like it was getting worse and eventually wanted the one with codene. I still couldn't sleep and my mother and grandmother wouldn't give me the Tylenol w/ codene until 8 hours past and they were only going to give me 1 instead the 2 the doc said I could have. So I waited in pain thinking the codene would relieve me, BUT NOOOOO. It got worse and worse and I eventually said I need to go to the hospital NOW. At first, my g/mother didn't want to take me back b/c she was afraid they would have just sent me back home and to try and rest, but I told her that I can't and the pain was lasting from (originally) 1min pain to every 5 min; to 4min pain to every 2min.

She woke my mother and try to tell her that I wanted to go to the hospital NOW. The pain became 5min to every 1min. and there was no way I could of moved to get dress. My g/mother came to try and get me off the bed, but I couldn't move, she checked my temperature cause I was soaking wet from head to toe and my temp was normal. She tried and help take my panties off to see if there was blood and sure enough there was plenty. SHe tried washing me down there and helped me put on some pants. But halfway into that, I turned in the bed to get on my knees and my water broke.

I had to wait in what it seemed like forever for them to get dress and get me in some pants and try their hardest to help me outside to the car and drive me to the ER. In the bed, my body was forcing me to push the baby out w/ my g/mother telling me not to push. My body forced me to push 3 times in the bed, 2 times outside trying to get in the car,  and 3 times inside the car driving to the ER.

When we got there, my g/mother rushed in there to get a wheelchair and told the receptionist that her granddaughter is in labor. My mother gets out to try and help me get out of the car but my body was forcing me to push again and I knew he was crowning. My mom is screaming for someone to come out cause the baby is coming and my body pushed the head out. My g/mother came out with the wheelchair but no one came out with her. And I told them to feel my pants and they felt his head and panic some more. G/mother ran back in the ER to get the b*tch of a receptionist to get someone outside to help me, but my body forced me to push him out completely. And I told my mother while she's in a panic mode that the baby is out. I was telling her to pull my pants down and grab him, and wrap him up in the towel that was on me, but as soon as she try to pull my pants down, she saw the baby and the umbilical cord was wrapped around his neck, and freaked out some more. ( I didn't know it was wrapped around him at the time.)

A security guard came out and asked if everything was alright and my mother yelled to him that my baby came out. He rushed into the ER and sure enough doctors and nurses came out. They grabbed him and told mom to cut the umbilical cord and they rushed my son inside saying that he is still breathing. They told my mother to hold the other end of the cord that was still attach to me while a male nurse assisted me in the wheelchair. They took me to L&D where I delivered my placenta. (No problems, no tearing, no stitches.)

My son was born 5lb.0oz, 18in.at 5:05am and was born in my mother's car outside the ER in the parking lot. He is in NICU b/c his little body got in a little shock b/c it was cold that morning (and the things the doctors do right away when the baby is born wasn't quite done like that for mine since there was no one really there.)

Almost every nurse on the floor heard about what happened and visited my son to see how he is doing and I'm proud to say he is doing perfect. The floor even nicknamed my son Prince Trenton and that even though he is in NICU, they cant't find hardly anything wrong with him. I'd decided to be discharged early so I can start relaxing my body more, to prepare myself for the baby to come home, and it's hard hearing babies in their mother's room all around you while your child is somewhere else.

I know this is a horror story for pregnant women to hear or fathom about but sadly and thankfully, this is my birth story. And though I wished I would have just parked my behind in the hospital lobby after doc told me to go home, I'm glad everything worked out in the end. My mother and I are writing letters to the nurse managers to let them know how amazingly caring and helpful the nurses were with me and my son. My doctor came to visit me and wanted to make sure I was ok and that was really sweet of him and he is consistently calling the nursery to make sure my son is progressing each day (which he has).

He will be discharged either Saturday 9/5 or Sunday 9/6. He is truly a miracle.
