Need Advice

If you were to take a couple to three month hiatus from actively trying to conceive, would you go on BCP or would you just wait it out?

My RE said I could do either...

Re: Need Advice

  • What would be the reasoning to go on BC?

I've gone on a few hiatuses, and never went on BC during that time.

  • I will never go on BCP again in my life.  That is just me....

  • I mean, after going through IF, I can't imagine ever not welcoming even an accidental pregnancy.  Are you having TTC?  Is there a specific reason you don't want to get pregant?  Not trying to be glib, trying to understand....
  • I'm not sure why you would go back on BCP.  I highly doubt I will ever go back on BCP.

  • I am not a bcp fan but I would consider it.  Here is my reasoning...even when we took our breaks all I did was think about ttc still.  Would I get a break cycle bfp, why didn't think work because I am relaxed and so on.  The one break I was on bcp(post lap) was the best becuase I knew I wasn't pregnant so I never thought about it.

  • sorry, should have given some more background.  I would go on BC b/c i have really irregular and frequent bleeding when I am not (two months straight of AF).

Yes, we do have TTTC.  I am taking a break in cycles b/c my last was cancelled and I have a two month period next summer (june/july) that I will be studying for and taking a state bar exam.  The break is not because I don't want to be pregnant but b/c we didn't expect to have problems TTC (who does...right?) and thought we'd be welcoming a bundle of joy well before having to prepare for this examination.

However, I agree with a lot of the posts that people made about NEVER wanting to go on BC again and that is what I am siding with.  I kind of want to see what my body will do when it is chemical/medication free...

    Thanks for the responses!.

  • Well, I have the same irregular bleeding problems...I have PCOS. My doctor would probably put me back on BCP just to get regulated. I get migraines from it though, so I'd probably end up taking Provera at every end of the month (10 daily pills, period after that).

do you have absence of a period or a period all the time?  Mine could hardly be called absent...quite the opposite.  I'm on provera now for the first time (10 days).

  • Ok, I got it now.  Well then it is really hard for me to give you advice b/c I've never had problems iwith my period like that.  At this point in my personal TTC journey though I wouldn't go on BCP no matter what the risks.  It would be impossible for me emotionally.  Good luck!
