3rd Trimester

NJ Ladies

Has anyone in the North New Jersey area (Bergen/Passaic/Essex counties) gone for a pre-natal massage that was worth the $$?  I want to get one but none of my friends ever had one and so I dont have any good reccomendations and dont want to waste my money.

I'll try a local board as well but thought I'd try here too!

Thanks!

  • I am not up that far north but I have been going to Massage Envy for my prenatal massages... they are a chain... it all depends on the person doing it.  I had one bad one but the rest have been heavenly!

  • I went to Dieci in Livingston, had Elizabeth, she was pretty good. I have a lot of neck problems (not really related to pregnancy) and she did a good job helping that. It wasn't cheap, but I had a gift card.
  • I've had 2 prenatal massages- 1 in PA and 1 in MD, and while they were relaxing, FWIW, I don't think any prenatal massage is that great.  They aren't deep tissue massages like I typically like-- just really light and gentle. Plus you have to be on your side, which isn't quite the same either.

For now I'm sticking to free massages from DH.  Maybe spend your spa $ instead on a pedicure since it's harder to reach your own toes now :)

  • I've had 3 prenatal massages in Hoboken--I'm not sure how far that is for you. The spa is called Ravinder's (voted best spa in Hoboken) and all massages I've had with Ravinder have been amazing. They relieve my aches and pains and are worth the $100.

She works sore muscles/my back and hips while avoiding the "pressure points" that are supposed to be avoided during pregnancy.

  • I went to Edamame in Destination Maternity, Livingston... it was well worth it, but I wasn't this big then so I don't know how i'd feel about it now.

  • If you are willing to come into the city, I had a fantastic prenatal massage at my chiropractor's office.  The massage therapist is only there a few days a week, though, and not on weekends, so it's not the most convenient thing.  https://www.bodycentralnyc.com/massage.html

I also had a good experience at Haven in Soho, but I also talked to the therapist ahead of time and explained that I did not want a wimpy massage.  If you go to a spa-type place, they often treat you as though you are really fragile, which is the last thing you need when you are pg.

If the city is too inconvenient, definitely try to find someone who specializes in prenatal massage.  Maybe your MD has recs?

  • Thank you guys for the reccomendations!  I teach group x classes at a couple gyms and next week is my last week so I wanted to do something to help unkink all my muscles that were ready to stop working out weeks ago!
