TTC After a Loss

For anyone who plans on having a baby someday

I saw this documentary called "The Business of Being Born."  It is excellent and I highly recommend it to everyone.  It's very eye-opening.  It advocates midwife births and lays out the facts about hospital births.  I am not a hippy, AP-type.  I'm pretty down the middle.  But this brought up points that couldn't be ignored.  Such as:  The majority of c sections are done during two times of the day (I don't remember what they exactly are, but the window is pretty small).  That is the time when OBs traditionally are changing shifts.  They want to get the birth over and done with so that they can go home.  Lying on your back is an unnatural way to give birth and takes away the help that gravity gives.  It is strictly for the conveniece of the medical staff.  Then when things aren't progressing they give you a drug that will give you artificially strong contractions.  That often makes the baby's hb decrease dangerously during contractions, so they do an emergency c-section.  Obviously they're not saying that this happens all the time or even most of the time.  Just much more often than necessary.

Well, I'm off to Disneyland now.  With a BFN this morning I'm free to ride any ride I want.  Yay?

believe it or not i still haven't seen this movie, but i need to.  i agree with everything that you said.  i know that natural births or midwife attended births are not for everyone, but it's nice for women to know that they have options.

birth does not always have to be the way we see it on tv.  it is YOUR birth and in most situations can be done YOUR way.  thanks for the info, heather!

  • Wow!  Thanks goodness my MIL is a nurse/midwife.  She will be looing out for me.

Heather - I still do not have AF yet and I am not suppose to  until Saturday.  Did you get your AF? Can it be too early to test and maybe that BFN today was just too soon?

  • HIghly recommend this movie as well!  Really advocates educating yourself about your birth and taking control of your health care choices.  I felt much more empowered during my labor even though certain things didn't turn out as I had hoped.

And I'm very sorry about the BFN :(

  • I had a midwife and she just wasn't for me.  I felt that she didn't give me as much care as I could have gotten with a normal dr.  I'm sure not everyone has the experience I did but for that reason I will never trust myself with a midwife again...just my opinion.
