Seriously?? I didn't realize what a clusterf*ck it would be to sign up for it.
First, they grill me for TWO HOURS over the phone. Now they want me to come in & have a physical & have blood drawn -- but not with my doctor. They want me to go to this chick I've never met before, and BY GOD, she wants it done today. & then MAYBE I'll be approved.
You know what? F*ck it. I'm almost 9 months pregnant & I have enough on my plate as it is. I have enough to get me in the ground should something happen, so this shiit can wait until after I've had Harrison.
Re: ARGH. Life insurance vent.
Yikes! That sucks!
DH signed us up for life insurance through his work, and they are giving us a year and a half of coverage before we have to get physicals ... by our own doctors!
um, this is normal for life insurance even when you aren't pregnant.... either you deal with it now, deal with it later, or don't get life insurance.
I sell life insurance and depending on how risky you are the more questions they ask. We won't even write life insurance on you if you are in your 3rd trimester....
What company is it with? I sell State Farm.
no shiit, Sherlock.
What I'm saying is that at this point, I don't have the time or patience to deal with it.
USAA
That's pretty standard for life insurance applications. Did they offer you the option of having someone come to you to do the blood draw and physical? They usually want to use their own labs, etc. (we had both had physicals less than 2 months prior and they wouldn't accept those). The nice thing was that they sent someone out to our house and she asked us questions, weighed us, took our BP, and drew blood right there in our house.
The process can be annoying, but it is definitely important. I'm just embarassed that I went 5 years with only one year's salary worth of insurance after my daughter was born. It feels so much better having it now.
Another note- my company did take my pregnancy into account when factoring weight/BMI- they took my weight now and asked for my pre-pregnancy weight. I was still able to get the "super preferred uber healthy" premium rate even though I'm now 30 pounds heavier...
We used Nationwide, and they had no problem writing a policy on me in my 3rd tri.
Nope, she said that I have to come to her office.
Which is over an hour away from my house.
We have USAA. They should definitely be able to send someone to your house if that is more convenient.
Edit: I'm very surprised at that. It was non-issue when we signed up a few months ago. The woman and left with an hour- she even came after 6 pm so we didn't have to leave work early or anything. USAA usually is much more accomodating than that.
Some companies DO take pregnancy into consideration, and my rates are not going to be higher. I am going through the process now.
I want it before I give birth just in case something happens to me, I don't want DH to be alone with the baby and financially strapped. We earn the same salary and our lifestyle (mortgage, etc) is based on both our incomes.
That is good to know! I will be calling Nationwide. Thanks!
Yea, this is all pretty standard stuff, unfortunately. We had a nurse come to our house one morning and she took our blood and all that good stuff right there in our kitchen.
It is pretty quick and painless - you either do it now or you do it later! Sorry girlie!
I have a policy through work right now and am going to get an additional policy, but they said to wait a month or two after delivery before signing up for it. For mine, I just need to do a cheek swab unless I'm getting a huge policy in which case I need to get blood drawn.
We're getting a whole life policy for baby, too. For that, they said to just call after he's 15 days old. We're getting that so that he's got a policy with a good premium rate that he can continue to use and will have in the event that further down the road he does have a health issue or something that would make his premium go up.
SUCKS!!!!
we signed up for life insurance about a month ago. it was actually fairly simple- we went & signed some papers, shook hands with my very attractive insurance agent, this cool dude came to our house & took our pee, blood & weight, we went back to the office last week & signed something else- WALLA!
i love Allstate.
look at the birds | bless this food
This exactly. Also, I have a lady coming to our house tonight to do our "physicals" so I would shop around if they won't work with you. We're going with American Family for our life insurance.
