I just had a major account taken away from me At work. FYI- I work for a japanse company. My boss told me it was given to this other girl because she spoke japanese and that it would be better if she handled the account. However, I was told when I was hired that japanese was not a requirement of the position that I work. Am I overreacting? Losing this account means I barely have any work during the day and I feel expendable.

I would be upset/shaken, but I would understand where the company is coming from.
Are a majority of your customers Japanese? Even though it's not a requirement, maybe you could look into taking some Japanese classes at your local university or community college? I'd consider it if you really love your job/this field and you feel like it would help.
Complain to HR. Tell them you think you have been discriminated against.

I agree with the pps who said that it's understandable you'd be upset. ?I would be too. ?However, I'd sit down with your boss and explain your concerns and ask what you can do to keep busy. ?Find out if there are new accounts that you could work on, etc.
