HSG question and specific's about Florida

Hey ladies... I need a little help.  I have a couple questions...

How bad is an HSG? I've heard a few stories from being out for a week to just a few hours with pain.  So how long were you out of commission? I am trying to figure out if I do this while I am out of town if it's going to ruin my whole vacation.

Also, if you live in Florida - specifically Orlando area, where did you have yours done?  If I can get in somewhere my RE will fax orders to them. The nurse said they are done usually at a hospital, but I know that imaging centers can do them too.  If anyone has any helpful info on this I'd appreciate it.

Re: HSG question and specific's about Florida

  • 1. It will truly vary by person, but I've never heard of anyone being out a week, unless they had theirs done decades ago. I drove myself there and home, and went sightseeing later in the day. My cramps were moderate for about 10 minutes after the procedure, and I just had a dull, achy, full feeling the rest of the day. I did a lot of sitting around.

    2. Can't help you with FL.

    Good luck.

  • Can't answer as to the specifics of FL, but I was not out of commission at all. Mine was at 2 and I took the rest of the day off of work, but it wasn't necessary. I was crampy afterwards, but nothing worse than when AF is around. It wasn't pleasant, but I have been through lots of worse things.

Take your own pad (there will be leakage and theirs are ginormous) and take some painkillers 30 min to an hour before.

  • Mine was really not that bad.  Keep in mind if you do it during a vacation that you might have spotting afterward, as well as cramps.  To me the whole experience was similar to Day 1 of a bad period, but the anxiety attack I almost had beforehand was the worst part :)

  • OMG @ a week recovery!  I am having mine done tomorrow and I am taking the afternoon off, but I plan to be back at work on friday.  I asked my RE for a valium script though because OTC pain meds don't ever do much for me.

  • I am leaving in about 2.5 hrs for mine, so I will let you know!!! This is my second one. My first one was really easy, just some cramping - but I will try to check in this afternoon and let you know!

  • Just got in from mine this morning.  It wasn't terrible, just some cramping and a bloated feeling like with a bad period.  I'm planning on going to the gym tonight, so I'm not out of commission too much.

Sorry can't help with the FL question.

  • It's been a year and a half since my HSG... but from what I can remember it wasn't bad at all and I was fine by the next day.

I live in Orlando and see Dr. Trolice (he is in Winter Park which if you are unfamiliar with the area it is 5-10 minutes from downtown). Here is his website - myfertilitycare.com
