Feel dumb for asking -- heartbeat

I have an appt. on Friday - I'll be 9w 4d.  What are the chances we'll hear the heartbeat?  I really need to hear it for reassurance.  I've been spotting because of a subchorionic hemorrhage and I don't want to tell people our news until we hear the heartbeat.  I don't want to wait another four weeks after that appt!

(sorry if this is asked a ton on here....I know I should know this answer, but I just can't think!)

  • i wish i knew the answers, but i had to comment that i love that your dd's bday and your due date are so close together! we are due 2 days before our dd's 4th bday! I bled/spotted often w/dd if that is comforting at all.

    Congrats!

  • It is possible but not likely with the dopplar.  If they do an ultrasound they will definitely hear it.
  • Thanks!  I'm kind of hoping for birthday twins, but I doubt it will happen since Erica was 2 weeks early.

Ugh -- I doubt they'd do an u/s at that appointment since it's later in the day.  I don't think I could handle the emotions that waiting would cause!

  • Ask for an u/s because of the bleeding.  I don't see the harm.  I don't think you will hear it on a doppler.  We could find DS's on a doppler at 11 weeks.

  • I just had an appointment at 9w3d and couldn't hear the HB on the doppler, so they did a quick u/s to make sure it was there and everything was OK. I think if  you bring up the spotting, they should be willing to do it.
  • I've had two ultrasounds done - the first at 6 weeks.. could see the heartbeat but not hear it, however went back at 8 weeks and could hear it loud and clear on the U.S. - I would have them do an US for sure... It made all of the difference for me, just hearing it was amazing - Good luck!
  • I have an appointment at 9 1/2 weeks and they said I won't have an u/s but will be able to hear the heartbeat.

  • My guess is that as long as you have an u/s you should be able to hear the hb.  If the dr only uses the doppler, chances are you won't hear it.  When we went to the dr last week (12w), the dr tried to use the doppler to hear the babys hb and he couldn't find it.  DH and I knew there was a hb because we just came out from having the NT Scan and heard it.
